How to Find Ideas and Topics for Social Media

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find ideas for content for FB and Twitter?

My client told me about the sales he wanted to run this week, but didn't provide any other information. I know especially for twitter I have to post at least a 5 to 1 ratio of helpful information and self serving promotion.

I don't want to copy anyone else's tweets. And the few I looked at were all sales, no info for the consumer. I want to create a page where the consumers feel they are getting a good value, not just constantly marketed to.

TIA

It's good to pull from sites that aggregate news like alltop.com.

Whatever your topic is, you can set up Google alerts to notify you of new articles daily or weekly as needed.

You can also set up an RSS reader such as Google Reader and plugin the RSS feeds for related sites to your clients niche/industry.

      Just a few ideas...

I always forget about Google alerts. Alltop is one I didn't know about. Going to check that out now.
I also figured out I could use some of that PLR floating around on my harddrive to make snappy little posts.

Now would be a good time to get acquainted with Hootsuite. You can go through and get your plr posts and other good stuff that you find and post a few days worth of messages at once.
Also mix up the time of day that you make the "money" post so you get a good distribution.
Also if you are pushing a BIG sale that doenst happen like all the time, its not necessarily bad to screw with the ratios a bit, as you want to make sure everyone gets a chance to see it.

Fans can be understanding as long as you are not ALWAYS pounding them hard with sales messages. In addition if you do a special giveaway or contest related to the sale then you can encourage retweets and get away with even more sales messages.

The best way is to add content to the clients website and then distribute through twitter.

Every client has a variety of key phrases you can target and develop content and soicial media for.

    Get specific.

    Example: Dog Groomer

Different services would be grooming for all the different types of dogs. I imagine grooming for an Alsatian would be different to a poodle. Full grown dogs different to puppies.

Then there would be the tangible products like flea, conditioner, teeth cleaning and so much more.

Then there are affiliate products or JV they could do with vets, boarding etc.

So as you can see with any business there are thousands of key phrases you could target for both content and social media.
