Can I put my client's TV commercial on Facebook Page?

Facebook has this on the fan page upload page:

Please upload a file only if:
  • The video is under 1024 MB and under 20 minutes
  • The video was made by you or your friends.
  • You or one of your friends appears in the video.
I appear in the commercial along with a couple employees. The television station already gave me the okay to post it on our website. So the commercial is on our YouTube channel as well as a blog post on the client website.

Will Facebook care about this? Am I giving up any copyright when I do this?

My client likes the idea of getting more people to see the commercial. Especially since we stopped paying for ad space.

Thanks,
Richard

Yes, rather than posting a YouTube video.

I hesitated because their language refers to homemade videos with you and one or more of your friends. Penalty can include having your account deleted. That would be bad!

I think the operator here is OR not AND. There are tons of videos on Facebook without any person in them. Look at all the scenery shots with nobody in them. So, size or someone in them, or you or a friend filmed it. Not size and someone in them and you or a friend filmed it.

You're right. Thanks for pointing that out.

Im saying that it doesnt matter if you load directly to FB or post a Youtube of that same video.
Often times I will do both. One of the videos will end up residing in the video folder of my page and the other video will be contained within a specially configured, standalone page on Facebook.

As long as you get permission I think that is fine.

YOu better first find out who has the rights to the commercial. If the client does not have the right to broadcast it without royalties, you may find yourself sued by both the client and the producer of the video.

Look around the warriors for hire section and find someone to make some videos for you cheap. It will be far better to have a video that they have rights to guaranteed than to have to head to court.

I'll check the agreement when I'm back in the office on Monday. I KNOW it allows me to put it on YouTube.com. I negotiated that up front when I agreed to make the commercial. The cable company was cool with that...they just wanted me to run it for at least 4 months. I ended up running it for 7 months.

      Thanks,
      Richard

Okay. So I have it on YouTube and Facebook. What do you mean by optimize it?
And do you have a link to a video on Pinterest? I am a total newbie on Pinterest...only been there once.

      Thanks,
      Richard

He means doing your keyword research and pitting those in the title and making sure the description and tags are keyword rich. That helps the video rank high on Google.
