Another Google Places Question

Is it correct to say that a Googgle Places listing is now MERGED with a business website in the search results?

Or should we be able to still have BOTH the GP listing AND the Business listing on the first page if they are both well optimised?

I have noticed that it is an either / or situation for some SERPs.

I have a client that had his main site on page 1, but since getting him GP A-slot, his website has vanished. Others that had both on page 1 now only have 1.

It doesn't seem to be across the board, but the change is definitely being tested in some areas.

That is what I have noticed also. I have several GP listings in first place but their website has dissappeared.

Since 2010 the GP listings and organic web results have been able to "merge". There are two types of search results depending on if the GP listing is "merged" with the web result for the particular business:

    1) Merged/blended search results - when they are merged (these have existed since October 2010)

    2) Non-merged/pure search results - where the website and listing are separated (these have been around since the beginning of Google Places, and Google local in general)

It is still not perfectly clear how Google determines which type of results to appear at the SERP. However, my personal thought is that it is based on user behavior.
