The Importance of Upselling (Start off small)

So I just finished meeting up with a potential client I got from a craigslist ad.

I was testing to see if people wanted someone to perform any kind of "maintenance" on their site.

So the guy I met wanted his deck and fencing contact form fixed and Google Analytics setup, I agreed to do it for $50.

I then started asking where he got his traffic and found out that he spending way too much money on Google Adwords.

I then started proposing marketing strategies and got him to sign up to Aweber (affiliate link through me) and then we agreed on a mobile site for $297

So, let'em bite on the small stuff and then if you meet face-to-face, show them all you can do.

That's definitely a great way to get started.

The thing I keep finding is when you get into their overall business plan (who they are, what they do, what they sell, long term goals, target market, etc.), you really see what it is they need you to do for them.

I have a potential client that would like to get his business online. As we got to talking about what he needs to do, I realized that while getting started is good, it's not enough without the whole package, i.e. like what you are saying.

A mobile site is a good start, but you have added other pieces to the puzzle.

I used the analogy of buying a new car (website) without getting the tires (mobile site) or steering wheel (a places page). It's like it all clicked (am a bit slow at times).

Anyway, congrats and all the best for your success.

    Thanks,

    John
