Will forum etiquette make you money and respect in the long run?

Some people are just nasty, hate to say that but its true. I'm sure all of us have gotten a PM or two that was just down right nasty. Not that you did anything wrong but whatever you did, it p*ssed someone off.

How do you handle it? Simply ignore? Make a mental note that the person is now on your sh*t list? All YOU are doing is trying to be an honest, ethical person, nothing else. Well, it does bother me when someone dumps on you and think that is perfectly ok.

Question; if you PM someone and gladly give them the info that they are asking for, after giving, do you feel somewhat taken if they don't PM you back with a thank you?

Down the line, if ever needed, are you going to stand up for someone that just "took"? Do you feel that by always being straight and standing up for what you believe in, will get you respect in the long run?

Just asking...

Eva

I've never received a nasty PM in my time here.

I piss people off regularly... I'm sure I get PMs from people like that or receive "infractions" for telling people what is needed instead of what they want to hear. Honestly, I'm not really sure how much hate mail I get because half the PMs I get, go unread.

Just be you... if you get mad about something, be mad.. if you're laid back, be laid back. Don't change yourself because someone on a forum might be ungrateful, or someone might not like what you have to say. Who cares?

Be yourself, get what you need to be done, done, and always move forward.

The majority of the people in this forum are involved in sales and or marketing. Therefore, it's fairly safe to say that most of us are not so thin-skinned that anything here would be bothersome. In the outter world we are faced with far worse possibilities of rudeness than here. Not to mention that the forum has an ignore function is someone really annoys you.

I think the "Thank You" button in the WF is one of the single most brilliant buttons I've ever come across in a vehicle such as this. It allows people who may not be able to put in words for any particular reason their appreciation.

I'm also hard pressed to believe that anyone is here for the express purpose of cyber-applause. I'm sure that are a few people here that may want to "sell" some of their knowledge and that's fine too. I would certainly buy a WSO from someone that I have some knowledge of than someone with 100 kudos from members with 3 posts to their credit.

Well, I guess I would fall in to the category of being "over sensitive". I've been a member here for about 2 1/2 years and have never turned down a request. Funny is though, once whoever recieves whatever they asked for, seldom do they PM back to say thank you.

Maybe I am "old school" but a simple thank you would make a h*ll of a difference and in the long run, might even develop to a profitable venture.

I've encountered people like that before, I just simply stop giving people detailed information. I gave a few people my exact scripts, closing methods, etc and they disappeared. Just give people the basics, enough for them to understand and use, that way you won't feel used in the end.

          Totally agree!

What actually made me post this thread was about someone who knew that I bought a particular wso. That person asked me to just send it to them. I said NO and got a majorly nasty reply as a "thank you",

don't lose any sleep over some one of that caliber...

also good for you, on NOT sharing the WSO

That's a different story! I can see where that would make someone angry under that circumstance. I probably would have said something besides a simlpe "no" to someone trying to steal another persons hard work.

That's the worst! People try to get John Durham's scripts from me all the time. They'll say something like "what do you think john would say in this situation
Or to this objection" After I tell them to ask him they usually disappear lol
Don't give those type of people ANY info, tell them to buy the wso like you did!

Yes, I'm pretty sure most of us have gone through something like that, it's not only happening in the Internet world.. In fact, It's happening more in real life.

I don't usually allow negative people to take over my emotions, thinking, mood etc, although sometimes I really want to punch, kick or "beach' slap their face.. After a few minutes of feeling angry, I'll remind myself that I shouldn't be upset over such an incident, it's just not worth.. I have better things to worry about!

Even though I'm not successful at this all the time but experience tells me that I'll feel a lot more happier when I'm in control of myself and the situation.. Being in control is one of the most powerful "thing" I've ever known..

Pray to God, turn to God.. That's another powerful method

I consider the source and deal appropriately. The only hate mail I've gotten was from a scammer because I challenged them on the use of not only a fake name, but on selling hyped up stuff that was pretty worthless. Few things are really worth getting heated over.

Regardless, even some of the things I read here piss me off because they can be misleading, but I brush it off.

Personally, I stand up whenever I'm challenged. Being a strong type A, I have a hard time backing down from any kind of challenge...something I've had to work on for a long time. I'd have to say being polite is a big bonus both online and offline. I make a point to not act like a jackass until someone does that first lol.

If someone were to ask me, I'd say it's best to be polite no matter what because this is business after all, and we must protect our brand image. That's something I've had to learn myself...trust takes a while to build and an instant to lose. Can't risk that by getting heated on a forum.

    Answer: YES.

I know this because I have too many people to answer everyday, when you dont answer one, you lose a customer... and if 15 days a month you miss "someone", you lose that person... in two months you have lost 30 customers...

When you figure that only ten percent of your list are buyers anyway... and you realize that most of the people you lose come from that 10%... Then you see that over sixty days of not catching everything up you can lose 30-50 customers...

    Thats significant.

You may not notice in the sense of loss because new people come into your network every day, but you notice in the lack of "growth".

So yes, answering emails (I know thats not what this is about) is important...but theres also a catch 22 when you get too many, because most of them dont want to hear from your VA...they will put up with it, but they really want an answer from YOU...and it can get to a point where you cant answer everyone.

I have 20 threads on this forum where I owe people answers...and I promise I lose customers everyday on every one of them...

And then the next day 5 more people want answers immediately... and its hard to get back around and catch up or even remember where you are supposed to be posting.

Yes, this is an important topic.

The answer is to get really sharp and make sure you list each day who needs answers and go down that liost like a machine first thing... It may take two hours per day... But do you want to lose 50 customers over 60 days?

Success has alot of catch 22's...its our job to work around those to keep growing.

More real world experience from JD here. Hope you dont tire of it. Its the best purest stuff I promise that.

    Forum etiquette is highly important.

Ps. Customers are alot harder to earn than they are too lose... BTW , I piss people off alot too, and like IAMNameless... I dont hold back wherever I am at... But thats dumb brother...we need to change.

Every pissy post loses a hundred potential customers over the next ten years and de-inspires someone who could have been inspired.

Dont look down on me for sharing this experience... I just share what other people are afraid to but also face...

    Learn from it.

John, Eva, the original poster, doesn't market to forum members,
      so not very relevant.

Very relevant about getting a forum reputation for being
a person who is helpful or one who puts down through
      the tone of their argument.

            • Hi Eva,

Glad that you made that post. I just told a friend about this exact dilemma.

I've helped COUNTLESS people here with Info / Advice / Direction, etc.

I would say that only barely a handful of people have thanked me. Sheesh!

However, as far as receiving "hate mail", it was only 2 people:

              One that had nothing to do with them;

The second, I called him out and he got pissed. So, to keep the peace, I deleted my posts (to help him save face)! Ya, I'm a softie too!

However, with all that said, I DO believe in Karma!

Edit: Down the line, if ever needed, are you going to stand up for someone that just "took"? Do you feel that by always being straight and standing up for what you believe in, will get you respect in the long run?

Eva, in response to your original post, like I said, I believe in Karma. With that said, YES! I do expect that I will get RESPECT IN THE LONG RUN! If I didn't, I still wouldn't be here researching, helping and responding to Warriors' requests!

              Onwards and Upwards,

              JMB

P.S. Please notice that I don't have a siggy selling ANYTHING!

P.S.S. Please notice that as of today's date (March 30, 2012) I have NOT started one thread asking for help or direction!

I dont care if people thank me or not....helping is a way of life. I think its small minded to even expect it personally, let alone "ask" for it. Just let the universe pay you back.

      Exactly, John!

      KARMA baby, Karma!

Meaning, I don't EXPECT anything in return! I give and give and give, regardless!

      However, I've also been taught:

The more people YOU help, the wealthier YOU will become.

Which again, comes back to the phrase word: Karma.

I love that word! Don't you?
