I'd appreciate some ideas on pricing for my offline proposal.

I work for a large family owned retail business. They have a website to display products but nothing else. The owner spends about 3 million a year in advertising (newspapers, billboards, tv, radio). He really believes in advertising. I'd like to offer to do a facebook page and blog for the business. I think it would be great for increasing traffic to the website as well as in the store. It would be a good way to quickly make customers aware of specials and new product instead of waiting for the lead times of print media.

I will propose setting up the facebook page and blog as well as maintaining both. I know the product so would be the perfect candidate to interact with customers and answer questions. I could link the facebook page to the blog where I would post articles, pictures and helpful tips on using the products. I could also offer to run facebook promotions and contests.
Any ideas on pricing for these services would be much appreciated.
I'm thinking a set amount for creating the blog and facebook page, then a weekly amount for maintaining which I would do in a timely and continuous manner.

Thanks.

When it comes to pricing I always start with the basic formula... Overhead + Time x hourly.
If they are already paying all that money for normal advertising you should have no problem requesting $1,000 up front and a monthly fee of $100 to $250. Blogging requires a lot of time .. make sure to note that when you tell them your prices.

    best of luck!

It is difficult to give you ideas about pricing, not know where you are located. I would suggest you go to a site like salary.com to get an idea about salaries for Social Media Managers in your area. This will begin to give you an idea about what to charge.

What you are proposing is not a one time deal, from what you described. You will be doing updates and promotion on the website and Facebook. Don't forget about Twitter, Foursquare and Pinterest, and others.

You may want to let him know this is something you do on the side, as a business, so he won't just try to make it part of you assigned duties with no, or very little, compensation.

People get paid thousands of dollars each month to manage Social Media campaigns for businesses, and you should too. Your bosses business will make large amounts of revenue from your efforts and you should be fairly compensated beyond your salary.

You may want to give them a discount because of your pre-existing relationship. They can be a great reference, for helping you get other clients.
