Just wondering if anyone has experience with anything like this;

A magazine is leaving free DVDs all over my town. When you take it home and put it in your DVD player, you can watch a trailer but need to enter a code to watch the full feature.

They're selling the code to access the DVD feature for $5 off their website.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

What is this technique called? Locked DVD? Coded DVD? If I'm trying to get a DVD like this made what should I be asking for?

Any info would be a great help.

Thanks,

Michael

That does sound interesting. I never heard of anything like that before. It might very well be a great lucrative opportunity. I tried to find something about this but all I found was something about people wanting a dvd access code to unlock some porno dvd's.

The DVDs they are leaving what are they? Curious what they are "selling". Movies? TV shows?

Aaron, The DVD was put out by a local street press magazine and featured video clips of local bands and DJs. You picked it up for free and then you had to pay to get the code.

Cvcena, Thanks for the link. That might be the software I'm looking for, I'm not really sure... Is there a name for this technique? When I'm getting a DVD made what should I say to the manufacturer? "Hey I want you to use ???? ????? on my DVD"?

Jonnnyd23, I know what you mean. I thought it was a great idea too, but I don't know how to find out what this is called. Typing "Locked DVD" or "DVD Code" into google just gives me a bunch of results about how to remove regional coding from DVDs, how to unlock and burn porno dvds, etc. etc.

Anyone know what this technique is called?

A friend of mine made a small fortune doing this with Herbalife in Thailand.

I can't remember the exact process, but I know it started with cold prospecting in busy shopping centers. I believe there were some cold calls involved at some point too.

Some folks were initially sold on the product and others the opportunity. Like I said, I don't recall the exact funnel but I know the end game was to get people interested in the opportunity.

Once interest existed he would mail them the DVD (actually, now I think about it, I'm quite sure it was a CD-ROM). This DVD stopped part-way through, prompting them to call my buddy's office and ask for a code.
This told my buddy he had a HOT prospect! Then, he could assess the situation and do his thing... seize the opportunity right then and there, hype it up some more, maybe just give the code, or whatever...

He'd typically give the code at some point, to unlock the DVD... and then stick the "Part 2" CD in the mail... which was, of course, a sales pitch. By that time the fruit was ripe for picking.

I think he was going through about 800 disks a month when he was working it hard.

Region coding works by embedding a geographical code into both DVD discs and players.if the codes don't match up you can’t watch the disc. Try finding the unlock code if you can but in my opinion you should buy it if you really want to watch the film.
