Attention Canadians (And Americans)- Google is looking for you!

Thank you for this post. I filled out the contact form for google in the US. This is great thier are very few people signed up at this time.
I would recommend this to any one on the forum. I do not know what the pay is,but this could be great for anyone's portfolio or resume.
Google authorized photograher sounds very professional. It sounds also like away to build a side business. Hire a few high school students train them and send them out to take photo's. It could be a great way to get your foot in the door to local businesses. For paid GP SEO ranking.

Couldn't agree more - reason why I shared it here on the forum!
I saw one photographer who stated that his prices start at $250... I think Google gives you a recommended rate to charge but it's really up to you.

Can't wait to get more info! Waiting on their NDA agreement to move forward.

That is a really great idea. I was thinking about the possibility of leads myself when you had mentioned this the other day. Get paid for people looking to improve their Google Places. Not a problem.

Those that are looking for this service know that you are approved with Google already, so it should be an easy upsell to optimize their place page, and from then on SEO work, PPC, whatever you want.

Totally! Working on it myself! Hoping to have everything finalized by next week with Google. I got the NDA and will review the additional info. Then I have a scheduled call with them on Monday...so all is going well! So exciting!

Got the NDA also along with the training modules. Looks like alot of info in the 3 modules, nervous about the test feel like im in school again!

Quickly skimming over all the info, looks very promising and a good way to make alot of money.

Looking at the equipment list, in Canada the fisheye lense is $999 and out of their list of required android phones I am not sure which one is the best one to go with?

Has anyone tried the test yet?

Unfortunately, I believe the list was done for the US as some phones are not in Canada I believe. Also, some equipment are sold by US companies - will need to find alternatives in Canada. All things I want to discuss with them on Monday.

They also talk about a rental company but here again, they are in the States.

Think they'd say no after being recommended by the beast itself? This isn't a foot in the door, it's Google kicking it down and saying listen to whatever this guy (or gal) ha to say.

Anyone know if you must be professional photographer?Also depending on camera fish eyes are cheap on ebay as I checked since mentioned in post.Don't want to sign up if need pros.

Canadians - PLEASE tell them that some of the equipment and cell phones listed are NOT available in Canada. I've sent them what is available. Hopefully if we all make the same comments, they will look into this more.

That you already have a business helping businesses with their online presence... They should put a note in your application. I got an email the same day with additional info. That's when you'll get the list. Can't share it since I agreed to a non-disclosure.

Well, I'm half way there I guess. Just have to come up with about $2000 worth of equipment...maybe $3000. I think I can make that up in a week once rolling tho.

I got a reply from a representative who asked me to send him a portfolio of my work, but I am an amateur so I dont really have one. I will have to explain that on monday when I call him back... The equipment is the only thing holding me back from doing this

It's wayy to expensive for me at the moment, even though I am sure the money can be made back in less than a month. Oh well, I still have to see if I can do this or not ..

Yeah thats sort of the barrier but having doors open all over the city for a "Google Trusted Photographer" is WELL WELL worth the price of admission. Plus its pretty well a 100% write off (at least in Canada) for the equipment so it pretty well pays for itself either way.

The only really BIG cost of equipment that cannot be reused for other projects is one lens and I have not seen them USED or cheaper anywhere.

yes, you can rent the equipment. look around a little, i found quite a few stores for the US.

Anyways, i missed out on this opportnity, the coordinator for my city called me while i was in class and i could not respond. I forgot to call her back until two days after the initial call, she told me the spot for my city was filled in.

I feel so bad about it

I think you need at least a canon rebel t2i for sure or better (not sure about nikon), a standard or wideangle lens, the fisheye lens, a decent tripod and the pano head for the tripod. That's the main stuff, maybe $2300 roughly.

I just received an email from them, but the thing is I'm not a professional photographer.(I doubt it's that hard) I just thought it might help my offline seo service to be a google certified business photographer. Does anyone know what they require ? They asked for my experience as a photographer, being an amateur do you think I should call them up or do I stand no chance ?
