How To Promote An Artist?

I do a lot of offline marketing with businesses but B2C is completely new to me in the sense of selling artwork. A client (4 years now) and good friend of mine is an artist who mainly does sports paintings, right now I am setting up a direct mailing campaign to send our newly designed pamphlets to football and basketball athletes' homes along with a customized letter based on their accomplishments and what he can do for them. All the players that we are sending pamphlets to are making over $1 million this coming season or made $1 million last season so these are people who have the money to afford the paintings. I have a list of a bunch of athletes that I am going to be sending these pamphlets and letters to, but what else can I do to promote him? I live in a really affluent community so maybe something with every day direct mail or leaving a pamphlet at each houses' doorstep in our gated community? Just spitballing here, want to find out the best way to get the highest ROI for both of us!

You are off to a great start by having a list of those sports people.

I'm thinking of pitching a limited edition of these paintings
which can be sold to their fan base.

Enlist the sports stars to endorse the limited editions.

    Think Franklin Mint.

    That's all for now.

    Best,
    Ewen

Want to do prints but that all requires licensing from the respective leagues which is a pain in the ass to file and get done...unless I want to do this illegally haha.

You can only sell originals of the painting, no prints. We already sell to fans and players just trying to figure out how to drum up more business.

Mate , you have to find a way to sell prints .. Otherwise it will take long time ..

From all my experiences the originals will bring in a lot more until you start selling a ton of prints to everyone. Originals normally bring in $2000 a pop and then prints only 100ish a pop at the same size, much easier to sell an original.

And long time for what haha?

Would including one of our pamphlets in the local newspaper be a good way to help promote us? The median family income here is $134,000ish so it's not like people don't have the money for it, just trying to figure out the best plan of attack!

I do not know if you and your friend have got a website but if you have you should have more opportunities to promote your business online and offline (like distributing smaller flyers with the website's URL, banners, ads in local newspapers inviting to visit the site).
