Should I charge my client?

So we agreed upon $200 for creating her facebook and i told her I could get her some new clients. I was very optimistic.

Well she's gotten about 200 likes, I created her banner and consulted her for her facebook. She has however gotten no clients, with little to no activity. She's a personal health coach, and it never occurred to me, that people who want to lose weight weren't itching to let the world know about it.

So should I charge her at all?

Not enough information. Did you make promises OR lead her to believe that she would definitely get clients? 200 likes is very little even in a small town - why no more than that? Have you any plan to help her increase this? What's her offer? Does she even have one? Loads of other questions could be asked - but maybe you should spend the keyboard time first?

Well she started out with 45 likes and now has just over 250. I did lead her to believe I would get her clients, as much as I believed I would. I can get another 200 or so, if I rerun the few ads once more, but that won't get her more clients. As it has shown already. No one has called her, or messaged her at all.

Seems to me like you have a performance based contract(if that) that seems rather vague to me.
If I do this then you do that. Not very professional and it will all end in tears in the end.
When I do clients work it is payment up front and NOT dependent on performance. For example $500 for the website - not $500 for the website ONLY if someone visits it. That does not make any commercial sense.
I would take the loss and learn from the experience.

Unless you guarantee'd a conversion, yes. If you did guarantee a conversion, then that'd be a different story, as well as a risky business plan.

In my opinion Facebook pages are good for "branding" or awareness, and may not lead directly into new clients. I would not charge for this, but would get her some new clients by ranking a video, or something like that. So you deliver on what you promised a FB page and the new clients. Then you could charge you agreed upon fee.

Hopefully some people will learn from this. Offering services and making promises you have no way of knowing you can keep it or not, is not a good idea.

In my opinion you should be paid unless getting a client was part of the deal.

You've done your deed and if I am getting paid on results (which I like to do) I am getting a very substantial fee or ownership.

Yes this is all really sound advice. Here's what I will do to hopefully save this client. Ask her if she'd like to do a video, and I will try to rank it as best as possible. If it works, great, if not then I'll have to cut losses. Both ways this is a "learned from" experience. I'm sure there are more to come.
