Anyone Tried Old School Offline Marketing?

I am talking about very cheapo methods like walking around with a sandwich board or having a logo on your car.

I searched for information marketing and the first guy to come up was fred gleek. He tried a couple of these methods and then of course he said he forgot to turn on any sort of tracking.

I am curious if this stuff works. I am trying to figure out how to diversify my sources of traffic from just Google.

I think places will actually pay you to tattoo their website on your face.

lol sorry for that, but really I guess that kind of falls inline with what you're looking for.

We do plenty of offline marketing for a few clients (it depends on the business); some of it is very cheap, and some of it costs (but, in terms of ROI, it pays).

Ref logos: My son-in-law has an animal therapy business and put all sorts of stickers on his car. In a nice melding of offline and online, when people see it, they take a photo and put it on Facebook

i think it doens´t work. you are asking to get more traffic, you can plan to multiple your ways of traffic like social medias (orkut, facebook, twitter) and other sites like (youttube, google, bing, yahoo) , and some internet forums.

'Success' depends on what your desired outcome is.

What exactly have you found doesn't work, jjbr? Have you found one method 'worse' than another?

It's easy to track these methods and run tests.

One client phoned up to complain about an offline technique I'd used. "Gosh! Why? "

Then she burst out laughing and said, "Because I've had to take on another member of staff to cope with the increase in business it brought me!"

I think offline marketing can be great and there is absolutely no reason why it can't be done along side online marketing.

I think one of the most affordable, and most effective, forms of offline marketing is to simply print up business cards. You can find them for free online or pay about $20 to get them printed up at a local print store.

Keep some with you at all times. This way, if you ever run into a marketing opportunity, no matter how small, you will be prepared!

If you even get one sale, order or client then your cards will likely have paid for themselves. How's that for ROI?

You can find Ross and Ed at:

Face it. It's brilliant! | Buy My Face

They claim to be making 10K a month. Kinda like the guy who will wear your T-shirt for a day. Don't have his url but you can goog the idea.

Anyone who says this stuff doesn't work simply hasn't thought of it. Everything works but to the degree you want it to, well sir, that's the rub isn't it?

I guess you could make an argument that buying someone's face isn't old school marketing. But, it is still a billboard, right?

Here's another idea but w/a twist. Mail order female hygiene products. Yep, in Britain there is a company that mail orders tampons. They claim to be doing very well. Old school marketing combined with an, ah, twist.

Hopefully I won't get banned for spreading the word about both of the above British companies. :-)

Marketing is a skill and an age old secret to riches. Offline Marketing though not as hot as Online Marketing (atleast here in WF) has its own place in terms of monetization! Am planning to look into this once I reach my Online Marketing goal!

I figured I'd ask, as I live just outside Boston.

I should be able to find some spots where there is high foot/car traffic to set up a mobile billboard or become the billboard myself.

Here's the example from Fred's site

    Sandwich Sign Lessons
    Signs, Signs, Signs

He can thank me later for the Dofollow links

I am thinking of ways to test this out. Maybe I'll try it out with a landing page and an affiliate link, or someone's ebook ect.

Whatever the subject it needs mass appeal. I don't want to create info products until I've done some market research and see how much response I get from different forms of promotion. if I write an ebook or start a blog I want to see if I'm dead in the water without google.

Basically if I can figure out a way to make it worth it, without google, then I can very confidently pull the trigger knowing that I will more than likely gain some traction in google, either with SEO or paid search.

I would really like to write an ebook with quality affiliate links in it, but that then negates being able to offer it on amazon.

Any ideas on how to track this? Perhaps send them to a shortened url?

Yeah I was thinking of a shortened URL or a single webpage on a new domain with a redirect and then just put analytics on the single page.

I also know the owner of a company that focuses on QR codes. They actually said its more hype than anything else UNLESS it adds value to the message, but I was going to try them if someone wanted to download directly to their smart phone and then stand out in front of the commuter rail in the morning and basically give people something to download and read on their phone on their ride into work.
