Selling $500 websites over the phone

Hey offline marketers. Can anyone give me advice on closing deals over the phone. I've tried John Durham's great telemarketing report and within the first day I landed a $500 website. The lucky part is I somehow convinced the business owner to come to my home, and then I sold him the site. I can't drive so setting and going to appointments is a problem for me right now.

So my question is, should I still try to close $500 websites on the phone, or should I try the bower formula that john talks about and try selling a free website and billing the hosting each and every month?

Also if any one has any scripts for closing on the phone I would love to hear them.

Thanks, Ricky.

I'll talk with them first and find out how "onboard" they are then I'll close on 1st call. If not then set an appointment to call later to go over more detail then close on 2nd call. This happens more often then 1st call just because there busy with something when I called them.

Now if they say they would like to see me then I let them know even though im relatively in the area, im 40 miles away, and they agree the phone is the best.

SO after asking them about what they would like to have happen after getting a new site and reassuring them with the potential. Then I ask if they want to go on with the next step, if so, to start I can take cc or mail check (im working in setting up check over the phone)

Why are you going for the appointments when you can go for the sale? You're setting up an unnecessary road block.

If you make enough calls, you can definitely get some appointments, if that is what you go for. If you make enough calls, you can get the sales, if that's what you ask for.

would you reccomend still trying to sell $500 websites over the phone then? or would the bower method be more suitable?

im a noob when it comes to selling over the phone, but i really dont mind getting my hands dirty. even if it takes my 500 calls.

I don't know... until a couple days ago I didn't know what the bower method was LOL.

I just call, if they're interested, they pay. That's all.. it really is that simple. You don't need to be an expert at cold calling, you just need persistence. If it didn't work, I wouldn't have a business. Well, I would because I diversify my efforts, but it works...

$500 websites is the same as a $10 website.. if you can sell a $10 website over the phone you can sell a $500 website. I sell $1,000 websites regularly over the phone, and even a lot higher than that. If there is a need you can fulfill, you can close the sale.

Note sure how you are making your calls and were you are getting your leads from. But if you can afford an dialer and create a good list leads to import into the dialer you will have a much better results when it comes to numbers.

I am more than happy to send you over some leads from hoovers or List Giant as I have memberships to both. At no charge. Let me know if you would like them so I can get some information on where you would like to call.

We sell $1,995.00 websites over the phone cold calling. So $500 is very doable. I wouldn't focus so much on the price as I would creating value for the prospect. If they see value in getting a website they will pay much more than if they base it strictly off price.

When you are making calls you will have a much better response rate getting a hold of someone that can make decisions regarding the website if you ask for the person who handles the marketing for the company and not the website.

    Good Luck!

I would be interested in help with a script also. I have one, but it doesn't seem to flow like it should.

Does anyone have a good sales process for closing over the phone? Would using the SPIN selling model be an effective way to close over the phone?

Nothing to sell, only value to give and new knowledge to learn.

I don't know what SPIN is nor have I looked it up, so these are just some quick thoughts and a little bit of how I go about phone prospecting. Nothing original or new here, you really should seek out some of the professionals here (they are very good).

      1. Establish just a little permission up front.
      2. Deliver a couple of bullet points that they can relate to that might cause them a bit of grief in their business.
      3. Attach some value to the bullet points (what it costs them to continue to have those issues).
      4. Deliver your solution to those problems.

Actually, when you qualify your prospect well enough, closing over the phone becomes easy. I highly recommend reading Jason Kanigan's post about how to monetize the problem.

The best advice I could give is to actually research your prospect ahead of time. It takes no more than 3 minutes to learn all you will need to get a solid foot in the door and to keep it open.

Don't think about the dollar amount, if you are offering a website to a business lacking, look for what they are not doing. Show them how they could increase sales with you, not to just put up a web presence. I've found its best to educate, show your true knowledge (not just be a salesman), and to show what you can actually do for the business owner. Too many people will just try to crank out sites every few hours for business owners, stop and take some time to true help them and you will really be able to establish your business.
