How Would You Benefit From This Op...

My brother just invited me to go with him to a Google sponsored free event tomorrow where non-IT savvy business owners like him will be taught how to use the new free Google site builder for their businesses.

Told him I wouldn't benefit since I DO build sites and the event is for folks like him who don't want to or can't afford to use guys like me. He said "Oh, ok, just thought it might have helped you, OK I'll be there anyway tomorrow".

So, I left his place thinking... Hmm, maybe I should just go along for the ride and see what's what.

Also, any ideas to benefit from an event possibly full of prospects who A) have no websites but want to build theirs with Google's tools B) May or may not be able to afford a web consultant to help with other related services like SEO, web marketing etc

Right off the top of my head...

1) See how Google handles events like that
2) Maybe shake hands and exchange details with a few possible prospects for SEO and other web related services
3) Maybe get a few names to get folks to join my free web marketing newsletter for later prospecting e.g, membership site sales for folks who want to learn IM, selling my IM related ebooks and other material etc...

I wonder can anyone help me with any other ideas I may be overlooking for a target audience like this locally?

I won't go unless the possible ROI will really be worth it.

Cheers,

Kunle

    I'm definitely thinking SEO.

Think about it this way, everybody there is interested in building a website.

When they leave there, they will have an idea how to build their website.

Most of them will probably be so excited that they go and build it right away... but now what?

You can talk to people and explain to them the SEO side of things. If you want, you could put a suit on and make yourself a name tag so they would automatically think you are a professional and you were invited there to help them.

Yes I was thinking the same, SEO should be a relatively easy sale. Though also wondering won't Google be pitching that TOO at an event like this? lol

I guess I'll go prepared for any eventualities--always the best way.

Thanks for the professional and name tag tip, too.

I don't think so. lol Google is against SEO, I believe. I don't think they would teach you how to build certain types of backlinks, and optimize your site for their search engine in order to cheat your way to the top of their system. lol
