GoDaddy made me try Residential test calls.... and the results were ...

I was watching TV the other night and saw another Go-Daddy commercial.

Only this time i was paying attention and i dissected the ad with the help of my DVR.
Then i went online and looked at a bunch of there TV spots.

I noticed that they are pitching the domains and website deal as a very subtle bizz opp ...

The 30 second TV pitch is, buy a domain, set up a web page super fast
and start making money ...

( I am ad libbin here, but watch one, ignore the bathing suites and you will see what i mean)

They aren't targeting existing businesses.

At first i thought to myself, "wow that's so 1997" .... then it hit me.

maybe those ads aren't stupid and dated, maybe they are genius

So i came up with a half assed plan, and started calling residential

I simply started out by asking if they ever thought of being in business for them selves by making money with the internet.

Most said "yes", or "of course", so i asked why didn't they.
some said they thought it would be too expensive, others said they had,
but failed miserably and others were just super eager to show me
their existing websites, that weren't making them ANY money.

can you see where i went with this? ... these people are virtual lay downs.
it all comes down to the money... do they have it, or are you willing to
reduce your prices.

I cannot BELIEVE how easy this is. I can see like 20 different angles to
go with this, depending on their answers.

The ones that were the EASIEST had a site, made no money AND felt shafted
10 minutes of explaining SEO, optimization, how to get traffic, another few
minutes explaining a few different options, and you could literally hear them
start to get excited all over again about the possibilities.

Like i said, i jumped on the phone for a few days with a half assed plan of attack....
my pitch was all over the place , because i was making it up as i went.

and talk about low hanging fruit.... jeazz loiuse...

I think if some one took the time to create a real plan, add in some type
of reoccurring payment options, possibly even a member site teaching
google adwords... optimization... ect

I think it can be HUGE HUGE money, and retardedly easy

any way... i thought i would share, maybe one of you guys
can run with this and crush it.

That's a nice little angle Ken. There are lots of people that are laid off at the moment, and many of those are getting desperate to find a way to replace their income.

The last I heard was that there is something like one in five are unemployed or underemployed. That is a huge chance that someone you talk to will be interested in your ideas.

You know what's funny? I was brain storming something very similar to this in the shower this morning .

Frankly, I have way too much on my plate to handle at the moment. But if executed properly it is a brilliant idea.

Interesting Ken and it makes total sense. Who hasn't dreamed of making money on the Internet.

I wouldn't recommend GoDaddy to my worst enemy but they are sure good marketers.

    Hmmm...

Sell them a membership to a website community, with restricted access breaking down SEO, picking keywords, picking domain names, choosing the best hosting. While plugging in your own services to a different website, reviewing each hosting with affiliate links and cookie stuffing, domain names, referral links... WOW.

Possibilities are kind of endless here.

The income being made from the memberships are only one side of this... and really the beginning of many different possible streams.

yeah man, crazy, mind boggling. I am going to sit down with my
brianiac people and see if we can up with a real plan.

every time i think of one idea, then try to think it through,
it spins off into several others...

This was just supposed to be a small template + SEO or keyword test,
      instead, who knows ...
If we play our cards properly, it might be a game changer.

I would say targeting upper middle class neighborhoods. Maybe even retired folks with some dough to burn. We have a client that falls right into that category...
This never occurred to me, but this really is a good idea.

    Awww, simplicity at its finest!

    Not so fast!

Before you get sued or go to jail, there are a few logistics, that us Canadians need to know!

    Hum, what?

Read these posts and links and you'll know what I'm talk'n about!

These rules and regulations are nothing to screw about!

First of all, you need to register for a Telemarketer's License!

What I'm trying to say is, know the rules BEFORE you even think about trying to implement the OP's plan"

    Here we go:

Telemarketing | Canadian Advertising and Marketing Law

    Telemarketing Licenses Required in BC

    Provincial Consumer Protection Legislation
In addition to federal law, in some provinces consumer protection laws may also apply to telemarketing activities.
For example, in British Columbia the Telemarketer Licensing Regulation (the “Telemarketer Regulation”) under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act applies to “telemarketers”.
“Telemarketer” is defined in the Telemarketer Regulation as “a supplier who engages in the business or occupation of initiating contact with a consumer by telephone or facsimile for the purpose of conducting a consumer transaction.”
The Telemarketer Regulation requires telemarketers to obtain licences for each location from which they conduct business in British Columbia, to display licences, report certain changes in a telemarketing business (e.g., the names and addresses of new employees and changes in senior officers) and maintain certain records (e.g., in relation to sales contracts with consumers).
The Telemarketer Regulation also regulates and prohibits certain activities by telemarketers, including regulating the days and times telemarketers can contact consumers, the frequency that telemarketers can contact consumers and requiring that certain disclosure be made.

I addition, more important Telemarketing Rules that apply in BC:

CRTC moves a step closer to establishing
a National Do Not Call List

OTTAWA-GATINEAU - In a decision issued today, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) set out rules for the creation and operation of a National Do Not Call List (National DNCL) for Canadians who wish to avoid unsolicited calls. These rules will come into effect once an operator has been chosen and the list is fully operational.
The Commission also determined that it would seek out an independent operator for the list and issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) later this month to solicit bids from parties. The information made public today ensures that potential bidders on the RFP are fully informed. It also allows the public and the industry to familiarize themselves with the changes and to prepare for the implementation of the National DNCL.
Once an operator has been selected and has taken the necessary steps to put the list into operation, Canadians who prefer not to receive unsolicited calls will be able to add, at no charge, their numbers to the database. Telemarketers will be prohibited from calling consumers who are registered on the list.

However, there are certain exemptions to the list, most of which are provided for in the Telecommunications Act. These include unsolicited calls made by or on behalf of:
    • registered charities;
    • political parties;
    • nomination contestants, leadership contestants or candidates of a political party;
    • opinion polling firms;
    • general-circulation newspapers;
    • organizations that have an existing business relationship with a consumer; and
    • organizations to business consumers.
Here’s the link to the article.

CRTC moves a step closer to establishing a National Do Not Call List

    Key facts for consumers

How do telemarketers know I'm on the National DNCL?
Telemarketers are required by law to subscribe to the National DNCL. Such companies register and pay fees to download updates from a secure website. It’s their responsibility to ensure numbers on the National DNCL are not called.

    Who can still call?
Registering on the National DNCL will reduce but not eliminate all telemarketing calls and faxes. There are certain kinds of telemarketing calls and faxes that are exempt from the National DNCL, including those made by or on behalf of:
    • registered charities
    • newspapers looking for subscriptions
    • political parties and their candidates
Companies with whom you have an existing business relationship are also exempt. For example, if you have done business with a company in the previous 18 months, that company can call you. After 18 months it must stop calling if you’re on the National DNCL, unless you give permission otherwise.

To learn more about exemptions, go to Who Can Still Call You on the National DNCL website.

Telemarketers making exempt calls must maintain their own do not call lists. If you do not want to be called by these telemarketers, you can ask to be put on their do not call lists. They are obliged to do so within 31 days. You may wish to keep a record of the date of your request.

Hope this helped someone out there, as to the RULES of telemarketing in BC, Canada!

There is another recent post along these lines, a guy making $5K a month with a local membership site teaching average Joe how to make some money online. He's got 500 subscribers at 9.97 a month or something.

he does it with flyers basically. I shudder to think how much, collectively, our knowledge of those of us here in the WF is worth in the marketplace.....scary.
