making a new site for an old client, help

Basically around a year ago I made a website for a local roofer, now he wants to make me a new one for one of his other businesses, so my question is because he is an older customer do I charge him less for being a repeat customer, or the same as I did before?

Is the site more or less complicated than his last one? You really can offer whatever you want, if it is around the same level of work I'd give him a discount in the same way I'd reward a referral for sending me work.

In this situation I would consider the fact that he has only bought one site from you before? Am I right in that presumption? If this is the case then he's come back to you after one year - he has obviously been happy with the work you did for him initially therefore to maintain the quality and standards of your first site you should charge him the same amount as you did a year ago.

If you are to offer him incentives then it should only be at around 10% reduction or offer to pay for his hosting and domain name if this is something that you do not already do and would work out better financially than a 10% reduction for you.

If he is looking for you to make numerous sites then yes I would considering offering a similar 10% reduction.

If it was me personally, i'd be talking about how the market has changed and how he needs A), B) and C) implemented on to his website to make it more successful and I would be looking to upsell the client on the price he paid last time... but i guess that's just my mentality.

    Good luck
    Nate

Charge him more now that he is familiar with your work OR let him know your prices are higher now to reflect the real value and increase in demand BUT since he has been with you are giving him last years rate.

I think that the main consideration should be the complexity and details of the new job. If you were selling a product, with a fixed cost, I think that a customer loyalty discount would be more appropriate. When you're dealing with a service, such as designing a website, however, each job is different. If the site is a bit more complicated, you could charge him the same amount and let him know that you'd normally charge a new customer far more, but since he's hired you in the past, you'll give him a discount by charging him the same amount you did for the last job.

Good luck kynkane. Just remember, many successful businesses profit the most from repeat and referral business. Good luck!

Charge him the same as the last site and upsell him on stuff. Is he collecting email otpins? If not, he really doesn't have a website, he just has a big electronic business card.

Make his site work for him. Get him customers. That's what he wants. Re-brand his entire business! Both offline advertising stuff and online stuff. Pitch him that way and you'll make copious amounts of money from the other trades people he talks to.
