The Power of Video: how many of you are doing video consultations?

Hey Warriors,

So since I've been a heavy user of LinkedIn for my prospecting, 90% of my prospects have been in other provinces/states/countries. Email and phone calls can only communicate so much..sometimes you just need a visual component. I've found really good success with creating video consultations/reviews.

Now, of course this isn't new--many fellow Warriors and Warriorettes (yes, I make up my own words sometimes lol) have used this technique in the past but I just wanted to bring it back into the spotlight to share how powerful this technique is.

Yes, it does take some time to record the video, does require practice (I'm naturally a very fast talker so I have to remind myself to sllloooowwww doowwwnnnn) and does require involvement from the client's end (hoping they spare 5-10 mins from their busy day to grab a coffee and press play to watch the video) but the feedback I've received has been AMAZING!!!

I know it seems simple to us, but my prospects have been blown away that I would actually take a time and create a video personalized to their business and offer value upfront. Some don't know even what a screen capture is so for them to see my screen and hear my voice--it's a first for some of them believe it or not!

As well, I think it really adds that personal communication touch. Now, when I give them a call, they feel like they already know me and it's a very, very warm and welcome call. It also sets me apart from other "telemarketers" (see email below).

Just a reminder that video is powerful..and if you haven't incorporated this yet in your prospecting--try it immediately!! Or if you have done it in the past but haven't used it lately..I'd definite recommend to bring it back into your arsenal of marketing tools.

Here's an email that I received from a prospect (hoping to sign him up by next week). Keep in mind, this guy has been on the internet for ages, has his own podcast, has ranked websites in the "good old html days" as he said and has created websites himself but now owns his own company (unrelated to marketing) and doesn't want to have the hassle of doing this himself, he wants somebody who is up-to-date on the latest techniques and will do the work for him--qualified or what?!?!

Prospect:

Wow, I am very impressed with your professionalism. To take the time to review my "sorry" excuse for AdWords and show me a keyword that lol has absolutely nothing to do with my business. Very well done! The video was most definitely a touch of professionalism I have not seen from any of the dozens, upon dozens, UPON dozens of "telemarketers" trying to win my online marketing business. You've got me sold.

I also appreciate the fact that you do more than simple keywords but the entire package as far as SEO, videos, etc. I am very excited to see what you can do. That said, let's get this started.

My target market is the North American market primarily the US with Canada as well. Let me know what else you need.

Thanks again and I cannot stress enough I am most impressed.

Cordially,
Louie "Smith", President

All I did: I reviewed his website and looked at his Adwords campaign to see how it could be improved. Offered VERY basic tips, shot a quick video because it's easier and faster than typing out a report (I can be lazy sometimes lol) and sent it over.

I was just overwhelmed by his response because he initially seemed like he was going to be a hard sell..funny how it goes: offer value upfront and it always pays off. Being able to present visually what the problem is and how you can solve it, is so powerful!

Lesson From This Post: Offer value in your videos AND make some videos..they really do work!!!

Hi Preeti, I weas interested in your post. I use Eyejot to put together video emails which I have foudn have a great click through rate and make people site up and take notice. I don't know of other programmes which do a similar job. I use Camtasia for my own business training vids and am impressed with the quality.

      Hey Steve,
I haven't used Eyejot before but I'll check it out! Yes, Camtasia is quite popular but if you're just looking for a "not so fancy" software, I'd highly recommend Jing. It's free and very simple to use. Only con: you can only record up to 5 mins. Another option is Snag-It, which is my personal favourite. No limitations on video length and you can press a button to upload to Screencast or Youtube which makes sending out the videos very easy and quick.

But yes, you're right--videos done right capture your audience's attention and the impression you leave is a lasting one. I can't tell you how many times I've called clients and they always remember the helpful video that I shot them...it works!

P.S. Love your pic--I used to have a german shepard and they're amazing dogs!

    Preeti,
How is the client seeing your video? Are you sending video emails?

I've seen a lot of issues with doing video emails. Most email programs stop video and images, sometimes sending them to spam. Or, at the very least the video or image doesn't show until the "display images" link has been clicked.

How are your prospects looking at the videos? Link to YouTube?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[6333476].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author Preeti
Hey Loopster, I use Youtube and just include the url in my email. I make my videos unlisted, send the client the link and then you can even track the demographics to see if it's been viewed and if so, how many times. Once I see it has been viewed, it's time to follow up and hear their feedback...hope that helps in answering your question!

ahh you got an advantage Preeti, cos you look pretty, so they want to watch you, when they see my big face staring at them from the video screen Im lucky if they hang around to listen ;-) , thats if theyre not doubled over convulsed with laughter !

Seriously though, I agree, they think video is difficult, theyre impressed that youve gone further than the average approach and well if you can do that as an intro, then imagine what you can do for a fee! , Theyre sold, it works for sure.

LOL MJB..you make me laugh! My videos are all screenshots showing them their website, rankings, reviews, etc. I don't know how inclined they would be to do business with me if they saw me in my PJs doing work LOL

Most definitely it's a powerful way to connect with clients, especially those that you will most likely never meet in person..I think it just adds another layer of credibility and professionalism.

Are you sending the e-mails before making any contact?

I sent a ton of these e-mails with no response, followed up and the owner was clueless to the e-mail.

I have been using BB Flashback express as it is free, upload the video to youtube and make it unlisted. I do up a email, including my youtube link.

I have sent out 8 emails this week, from that I have 1 consult with a local dentist and a consult with a golf course.

I think I will check out that screen-o-matic as mentioned above.

I am starting to use video for everything from thank you messages, proposals, tutorials, prospecting, vlog posts etc. It's so powerful and the way the Internet is heading. It's not easy though, it does take time to actually get "on camera"

Check out a website call Spreecast, I think it is really going to blow up.

I back you up 100% on this. Video is huge. The biggest hurdle is to help offline clients understand this. Some people get it and some don't. Having a simple thank you video from the owner, video testimonials, video segment on a new promotion, going on a delivery job and seeing the smiling customer receiving their product, this list is endless.

I run a offline videography/photography company as well so this also ties in well to marketing/online marketing.

I find alot of people are shy to get on camera so I have found ways around that to make them comfortable. Do a promo video of their store with a voice-over from the owner.

I recently did a photo shoot at a local store, made a slideshow for them and embedded into their website. I am getting a video testimonial from but they are to shy to go on camera so instead I will recreate their photo slideshow and do a voice over on how their experience went with me so they won't have to show their face on video.

Great idea there 9999 for approaching biz owners who are shy to get on camera..even throwing up their picture and having them present themselves via a voiceover could be helpful as well..it's all about (I think) creating trust with clients and offering some transparency. And it applies both to our clients and our own offline business!

Adam wasn't lying about this LOL I got a thank you video from Adam..so very cool..I mean I'm in online/offline marketing and typically send this out to clients but to get one in return..that was SO awesome and totally made my day!

It also made me feel like I've now "met" Adam..kinda a neat experience because it put me on the other end of the line..receiving the video vs. sending it

      Thanks Adam..awesome video!!!

Video definitely works - it what I teach in my course below. And actually, I'm launching a new company and I'm going to solely use video as my vehicle to drive new business into my offline marketing company. I'll probably start a thread here in the next 30-45 days to show everyone the power of what can be done and make it a "live" case study for using video sales tactics.

It works phenomenally and everybody loves it - much easier in my mind to give a little value for your time rather then spend hours each day cold calling for the 1-5 prospects. I'd rather spend half that time and get the same amount of prospects.

Awesome stuff Adam..that's going to be pretty awesome and I have doubt you'll rock it! (I remember when I first got started, I was lucky enough to score a 1 on 1 call with Adam and learn more about offline marketing and he totally inspired me

Totally agree with you on the last point--once you start shooting videos they are EASY and even FUN! And the power of positioning works wonders in prospects minds..and I think it's just an extra layer of professional of shooting a personalized video vs. a cold call (which can work too!).

Be great if there was some software (and maybe there is) that allows us to slip sort of like a mail merge piece into the video where 1-3 minutes of the content would be the same (generic industry wise) but maybe 1 minute would be specific to the individual business eg mentioning their name, specialities, areas covered , issues etc etc

        Hi Mike,

You can do this with Camtasia. Record the generic piece as 1 video, then the video for the invididual business. Drop both of these onto the timeline and create the completed video from there.

I've kept that desciption pretty basic just to show it can be done, but if you're thinking of doing it and need more detail, just ask and I'm happy to answer any questions.

It's a while since I've used SnagIt, do you know what format their video files are.

I've just tested it in windows movie maker and yes if you make 2 or more videos with it, you can then import these as .wmv files and make 1 new video that has them all joined together.

You nailed some very important facts in your post ans some that are based on human psychology. I started using this method and closed a deal in New York...I'm based in Chicago. The funny thing was that I just 'did it' without over-thinking or over-analyzing.

When you approach it from the angle that you're doing a favor and don't hang your heart on "this must result in a sale" you come across a lot smoother to.

Great post, now all people need to do is go out and commit to doing a few to get started.

Bayo, appreciate your kind comments on the post and congrats on closing that NY client--woohoo!

It's so true..with making videos, it can seem a bit overwhelming and daunting but really, once you get into the rhythm of it it can be fun (minus the talking to your computer screen part LOL).

Not only does it leave a VERY strong impression on the viewer (as evident by the client's email) but alot easier than typing up a report or taking screenshots IMO.

Perhaps we need to setup some kind of video challenge..get people to start taking some action

Well, after I initially reached out to him on LinkedIn and qualified him (he was interested in online marketing).

I told him I would offer a free video consultation and sent him the video. So he was expecting the video however, our target market (biz owners) are busy..so sometimes it does take some time for them to grab some time away from running the show to view the video.

I use a little trick, whereby I track if the client has viewed the video. After uploading to Youtube, make your video unlisted. Use the unlisted URL when you send the video link.

Then when you come back to Youtube to check after a couple of days of sending your email, you'll see the "View Stats" for the video as 1, 2, 3, etc. indicating how many times the video has been viewed. So..now you know if the video has been viewed since only individuals with that unlisted URL will be able to view it (i.e. your client whom you sent the email to).

I haven't tried cold emails with videos. I know Adam has done that with success but I have yet to try that as a lead generation method. Although, I'm sure it would work--just perhaps need a follow up call?

As for now, I'm doing a bunch of video consultations and then I always follow up with a call. Been working quite well for me..just takes some time but worth the time/effort.

This sounds like a good idea. Maybe I could do this to "cold video" clients and show them visually how they are not getting found for certain keywords and show them how there competitors are. I tried the camtasia but could nt understand it...will try screen o matic and see what happens....o
