Places Gurus is this true about ipads?

Can you use a iPad in an office and use it to harvest reviews for (GP, Yelp...) review sites without penalty ?

It would be suggested by staff but only to make the customers aware that the option to use the ipad for a review was there but not for any bribery of favorable reviews or anything underhanded. Just want to "seize the moment" .

The reason I ask is because I came across some information stating that ipad 3g/4g's ? do not use the same ip every time. So using an ipad to get reviews in office vs hoping they do it at home would be possible w/o looking fishy to Google (all reviews coming from the same ip)

Is this correct/ok ?

    You're somewhat correct.

They don't use the same IPs all the time, and this is true for any tablet that is using 3g-4g instead of wireless connections. The same applies for smart phones.

What you will need to do, is turn on airplane mode, and turn it off, for it to change IPs.

What I suggest is this... go to whatismyip.com, do the airplane mode trick... then refresh whatismyip.com to make sure it changes.

You don't have an unlimited amount of IPs.. most have about 4-5 used in rotation.

I have never used this technique with google places or review sites, but that's a good idea. I used it for more blackhat type things for craigslist and such.

Also remember that people need to login to their google/yahoo/yelp site to leave a review and a lot of people are "skeptical" about logging in to a community computer/ipad. (Though if they do it, even if the IP overlaps a few times, the actual client accounts (in google/yahoo/yelp) should already be established which will eliminate red flags.

I would recommend though using a QR Code that points to the review sites and just have people scan it with their own personal smartphones to leave a review. Eliminates all the possible issues, unless they don't have a smart phone, the the iPad as a backup would be available.

Thats odd because this was the first & main way I got reviews for the business I work for now and its still working great. For the first month, every week I would call 2 members from my family/friend circle who had an IPAD, give them the link, and have them leave a review.

Now 3 months later, we have 24 reviews on our google places and not 1 has been flagged. Seems like as a newbie then I wasn't really doing anything wrong so I'm happy to see this thread.

Red, I think you missed the point / content of the post.

No one said that using an ipad was bad or wrong. The OP was asking if an office had it's own ipad set up and all customers in the office used that one ipad to leave reviews if that was bad (since it would be or could be on the same IP). And it doesn't even have to be an ipad, i have seen some offices just have a computer set up on the side and had clients use that.

I would tread lightly on asking for reviews and having them all posted from one IP address.
Pretty sure that is against both Google Places and Yelp reviews.

Informative post to know about this truth of reviews from the same IP address. I never think about this till now. Now I'm thinking more to read any reviews of giving in particular topics and issue. Thanks for sharing here this post. What about the reviews, which are posted on official websites??
