To those of you that outsource Telemarketers

I'm looking to outsource some telemarketing. I don't need a miracle worker, but someone who has had experience.

I guess I'm just looking for some tips on how you all would recommend outsourcing. I'm poking around at Odesk and craigslist. There were several that replied to my listing on Odesk, however NONE seemed fluent in English.

I'm just looking for somewhere to start. I do as much telemarketing as I can (been using john's Bower Formula) And have been doing fairly well at it. However I'm a nurse and between my shifts at the hospital and running my part time business I'm putting in consistent 16 hour days and working all weekends to keep up with everything. It would be nice to have someone calling on the days I work to keep things moving forward.

As I said, I understand that I'm not going to find a miracle telemarketer, but I would like someone who I can understand and can actually close some sales.

How do you want to pay them? And how much are you charging monthly? 19.95? 49.95? I need to know that before I give any advice but unless you can pay a rep for this about $75 per sale you need to do hourly.

Using the bower formula with telemarketers forces you to pretty much bootstrap IMHO until you get some cashflow. You can't expect someone to work for a commission only residual income they'll try it for a day and if they don't make tons of sale they'll quit.

With the bower formula you need to be able to pay them hourly in my opinion and that's how the formula tells you to do it anyway.

This is NOT the traditional bower formula way but it is a way you can pay for results. Pay someone per appointment, I wonder who  ...and if you can close real well at 80%, charge $39.95 per month, you can break-even (well make like 20 bucks) for the first set of appointments and never have to be in the red. This is a assuming a per appointment price that I charge that I will not say on the open forum.

I'm about to give up on O'desk, I tried one from the US she was given all the infromation for the bower report and quit after a few calls. 4 others were hired one agreed and worked a whole 20 minutes and never did a thing after that. Tried multiple messages thru O'desk no replies.

Next person billed for actual time taking O"desk tests She was terminated ASAP.

Next one wanted everything perfect. ( Kinda of hard to explain but if it was not a Tuesday at exactly the time of day the business owner was ready to buy, she would not call.) She has top ranking for over-seas tele sales.

Last one I still have he can not close, He comes with about 1-2 leads a week. None of them have conveted to sales at this time. It may be best to stay away from O'desk unless you have money to burn.

I expected nothing better out of odesk anyway. Half of them you can't even understand.

I have had really good success with Odesk callers. Of course, you have to pay for it. You can't hire a telemarketer for $3-4 per hour and expect good results.

    Look for a few things:

    1. Look for a track record of success. This is can be seen by looking at their contracts. What is their longest contract? If they have a bunch of 5-10 hour contracts and no jobs with extended hours, then something is wrong. If they are successful, why are their contracts so short?

    2. Look at and read reviews! Expect there to be high ratings. If they have ONE low rating job, make sure to ask about it in the interview.

    3. TALK to them. Have actual interviews with them.

Also, make sure to weed out applicants by including an instruction at the end of your listing. I like to tell them to reply and start their application with a certain word. This will let you know if they read your listing or not.

Many applicants on Odesk will have excellent English skills and good telemarketing skills, but you better be willing to PAY for their expertise. Often times, the most skilled are working more than one ongoing project - so check their availability!

Another trick: I always try to negotiate DOWN on price in an interview. This is NOT to be cheap. I simply want to see their response. If they agree with no argument, then I won't hire them. The TRUE sales people will explain their VALUE and justify their quote. If they can't sell themselves, how will they sell your product/service?

I have some experience hiring a lead generator on Odesk.

Talk to them on the phone and ask them off-beat questions. This way you can get a sense for how their English is when they are not talking from a script. Many outsourced CSR/Telemarketers get very nervous and uncomfortable when going off-script.

The lady I used tried to squeeze as many hours as she could in one day, despite me informing her that she should not phone leads during lunch hours. If I could go back in time, I would have had a longer interview phone call and asked her to read my script back to me.

It's possible you can have success on Odesk but I recommend being diligent when hiring.
