Domain Selection Help For A Lead Gen Site

I understand that the one of the best domains for a lead gen site is www.PROFESSIONCITY.com but is it better for a lead gen site to specify a little more if there are more than one of those cities in the country you are advertising in?

By making it www.ProfessionCityState.com doesnt that cut down on a few unqualified leads or does Google take care of that already with its distance based searches?

Also, how much of a handicap would I have to overcome if I used a .info domain?

If I am only mainly competing against PR2 sites would a .info be adequate to rank #1

Thanks in advance for any info or ideas.

Unless your city is extremely well known, I have found the search numbers larger for ProfessionCityState then ProfessionCity. I haven't tried .info for local domains but never had a problem ranking them on global domain.

Does it matter if the state is abbreviated?

You got your niche is the particular state compare to the .com . You can get rank better than it . You might possible to get a country domain extension with the same with the www.PROFESSIONCITY. uk . Then you will take advantages in local search engine.

I was under the impression that google doesn't place a whole lot of importance on domain names, but I'm not an SEO person, so I don't know for sure. I always thought the bigger issue was the quality of the backlinks to your site.

It's actually the opposite. The domain name is THE biggest variable inmy experience. I have a website that's been ranked 1-3 for several years with a handful of back links and almost no content, just because it's a perfect keyword domain.

And remember.... Google serves results based on location... the domain is key.. and I have not found much difference between com info co or any of the others...

Com is mainly if you want someone to type the name directly into a browser. For anchor text is really doesn't matter.

So you should look at your domain names from a strategic view as opposed to a tactical view.

However this is just my experience... testing trumps all.
