website v facebook page

I am thinking of redirecting my wp website to my face book page for my offfline business, https://www.facebook.com/localmarketingstrategiesuk

The way i see it is a facebook page created for local business is better than a standard web site, its easier for the business owner to add content, and people in the local town can find it easier, what are your thoughts on this, Mick.

I would hold off on that one. Your Facebook page sucks. You only have two likes, your "welcome" page has no content, and it's not very obvious what you do based on the 10 stock photos you have trashing up your timeline picture.

I would not do business with you if I saw that.

Edit: I see you've already redirected it. Let us know how that goes.

hahahaha i like how you're so kind but telling his facebook page sucks! at least you're being honest!

My advice is... test it out and see what works best for you. It might not even the WP or the Facebook. It might be the copywriting on it. There are too many things to test.

From viewing your Facebook page, it's hard to tell... anything.

If I wanted to give you my money for your service, right now, I would have no idea how. That's a problem.

You should view your website as the nucleus, the core of your online Presence. Everything else that flows from there and the cycle begins.

Facebook, twitter, youtube etc...are all great tools to use in ADDITION to a regular website, but I would never rely fully on something like FB that you don't own and have no outright control over.

If anything, publish your content first on your website and then re-post it on FB, but don't trust your business to a free service where you never know when they're going to change the rules on you.

Their recent change to timelines for all business pages was nothing really, but I'd hate to be dependent on them 1) if they ever start charging for their services and 2) if their website ever goes goes down or has issues. Also, I know almost a billion people are on Facebook, but I wouldn't take the chance with a prospect who may not have any interest in being on FB to learn about your services.

Ummm, why is it either one or the other. Shouldn't you have both. I side with Steve though. Website first, then FB as a backup. Personally I would not even bother with FB for this particular situation, by that I mean I would not go to FB to find local marketing solutions. If you are even remotely dependent on search then FB is pretty useless I think.

I also don't like the new timeline feature. It's just hard for me to get my head around content that goes back and forth instead of scrolling down. Maybe I'm just an old fart.

@somacorellc your honestly is pretty amazing and funny! But you do have good advice.

Having only 2 fans will not look good at all to potential clients. Why would they fork over money for "marketing" services if you can't build a following yourself.

I take that back. You now have 3 likes. I just liked your page.

Yeah, I agree with Steve too. I always tell my prospects and clients that your website is the foundation, like Connor put it - the core, of your online presence.

Everything else should support your website from there and only if it makes sense to use those services.

Also, you really should do something with your timeline picture, it's "loud"

It depend where is your target market. It your target market usually from facebook , then you might as well use a facebook .
But for me , i believe go to both because as a marketing firm , it need to be formal and look professional and here come to website.
Regarding price, service, review and so on , they prefer to look back on to website to find out more information while facebook might only share limited of information only.

Why not go with both ? since both do give u advantages.

I would never redirect my website to facebook fan page because I never can't trust on facebook, neither on Google, your website means your own home, no one can take from you.

And if you don't offline business for developing website than why will you show the facebook fan page because they already know about the website and facebook fan page is new concept for them and they won't trust if they land on facebook fan page..

Personally, I would always have a website as a backup, because you never know what the Facebook gods will decide to do in the future.

Now as far as the Facebook itself goes, I would extend my reach if I was you. Like the gentleman earlier said, I would use more than one social media site and connect them all. For instance I would be making how to YouTube videos with small bits of info and post them on the FB page. I would also pin those videos to Pinterest to get even more reach.

Just my .02. Let us know how it goes please

A website also provides more authority and credibility behind your business, and your facebook should be an extension off of that website to interact with clients and give updates.

You do not own your facebook page, it could be taken down or facebook could disappear at any moment.

Your own website, you own that, you can build that and it will stay as yours no matter what happens.

Website is better than facebook , If you have a good and unique content, good seo done on website then the site will be able to attract more users than facebook.

  • Well,According to my opinion Facebook is something different to websites.when you are in the field of competition ,than if any one can ask about your websites and if you show them your Face Book page,Really it will put a bad impression and would prefer not to deal with you so both are very much important..

I would not even worry about facebook until I
had a well established website. Even then I
wouldn't worry about facebook. Their lack
of "stellar" profits and stock drop is proof
that social is just not up to taking over
the world yet. That is as far as online
marketing goes. People say they have
close to a billion members. Well, what
good is that? They have yet to prove
        anything beyond social.

Reminds me of a joke from long ago.

What I have done is create my clients website to be the same width as facebook and then I have included the website inside an iframe so any changes made on their site are automatically reflected to their fan page and I think this works well.
