What sort of backlinks do you use for local seo?

Hey Guys,

Im a traditional back link builder, Guest posts and featured articles on related sites. However this can be very time consuming.

I just wondered what and where you build links from for local seo sites and to citation listings.

Any help would be appreciated as I am trying to mix it up a little.

This all depends on what the client has already done, what the competitors are doing, and how much they can afford to spend.

99% of the time all you need is citations for local websites. Build out the web 2.0 properties, and maybe do a press release.

I have been seeing this myself. I think G has a different algorithm for local business sites.

The other day I was talking with Chris Silver Smith (one of the gurus of local SEO). The topic of our discussion was the influence of citations for the purely organic (web) results. According to him Google already takes these into account when ranking websites for local search.

However, while I'm a big, big fan of citations, I don't think they currently have direct value over rankings. At the same time, business directories that provide do-follow links together with the business listing (like Angieslist.com, for instance) might give a very serious boost to a website targeting local audience. The content of the listing is very locally-oriented, so this could be considered a link from a highly relevant source + the domain authority of these sites is great.

Overall, my thought is currently citations don't have direct, but rather - indirect value over local sites rankings.

    Just my couple of cents
