Google Places confusion

I have a new GP listing that was verified on Tuesday. I can find it by searching for the company name ""Quality Roofing City" but nothing for the keyword "roofing city". Also the listing shows the first category as deck builder when the first one listed on the editing page is roofing contractor.

None of the pictures show or the video when I click on place page yet they are all there if I click to edit the listing? Do I need to just wait a few days?

First off I would be careful of using "Quality Roofing City" as the business name unless it is actually the business' registered name as Google have gone to a lot of effort recently to clamp down on spammy business titles in GP. I've seen it take as much as two weeks from verification to appearing in search results so I would just give it some time.

Regarding the videos/pictures, there was a bug recently and lots of GP listings videos disappeared. Vanessa, the GP community manager and one of the top contributors in the GP forum mentioned in her new weekly video round-up that this had been fixed but a lot of our clients are still having trouble with this. Maybe it will take a while before everything's back to normal.

Not much help to you really mate but patience is the key to Google Places, it can drive you up the walls sometimes but it'd be no fun if it wasn't a challenge eh! Good luck!

Sean I did actually register the name as a DBA with the Secretary of state. In the future I think I will avoid using the keyword in the business name because it is too risky considering the money (for a physical address) and work involved in getting these listings setup.

I had a Fiverr create 15 citiations for me on some business directories with PR2 and up. Hopefully in a week I will be ok.

The logo is missing from your website my friend. Also, you may want to consider creating a nice favicon instead of having BlueHost's logo as your favicon.

It's not going to show up right away. Read this for the timelines on Google Places actions:

Actually, just hang out on that forum. It'll give you a lot more help than you'll get here, trust me.

    • The link somacorellc posted is a good one. Various Places data takes time to show up plus Places is just buggy.

I'm the one that reported the missing video bug to Vanessa. I think it was like 3 weeks ago and videos are still missing. BUT on new listings I think new vids show up. It's just all the existing videos that are missing.

ALSO BE ADVISED - New listings need about 6 weeks to mature in the index before they rank for keyword searches.

LITTLE KNOWN TIP - Watch the Place page to see when the "Related Places" section gets added. To some degree it's a sign. If it's missing, that tells you the listing is new and not fully integrated into the local database yet.
