Client with a $20k+ budget. Need advice!

So I have a referral who employs a member of staff to manage their website and pays them $36k annually. The biz owner was (up until december) spending $1500 a month with an seo company who did hardly anything.

I've done some initial consulation and he believes its possible to turn over a million dollars a year - I done some research and this is possible. I didn't know how to price it (website redesign, conversion optimisation seo etc) so I asked him to think about the potential profit he can make then tell me the kind of investment he is willing to make to get there.

I will be sending him a list of services just for an idea shortly (going to be conversion style written) - and I expect a minimum of 8k for the site and the 1.5k a month seo for at least a year. He is willing to pay this upfront too.

I may end up having to give him prices so the question is how much would you charge this kind of client and how would you approach it?

This is the first deal of this kind for me and is a great opportunity so any help is truly appreciated.

    If you are trying to attract new leads via the web, it may be better to set up some lead generation sites built around certain keywords and then SEO those. If he spent a bunch of money on his current site, a business brochure type site, he may want to keep it if it has a cool design already, lots of info, etc.

    Also, what is his social presence, is his site mobile friendly, is he on Google Places (if applicable), etc.?

    The more services you provide, the more you can charge obviously and the more his business will be noticed via various means online.

    I did mean to mention its an online store - so about targeting that then specific service lead gen sites.

    Some good advice there though! Appreciate it, first time i've been unsure with what to do with a client.

    Make a value based contract if you know how to make one.

    Already successful offline businesses are much more likely to pay high value based fees than online marketing newbies. If the potential buyer already states that he has a high budget and tells you the amount he can invest,you should almost never charge less than he is willing to pay.

    The question is how big of an ROI can you represent to the client and also deliver?

    But make sure that you can also deliver what you promise. People are interested in how much money you can make them, not how long you're going to provide them the services.

    RESULTS MATTER, not provided tasks.

      Thanks for the response. I always analyse what I can deliver and sell on the basis on what will be achieved from the client not the tasks we are doing.

      I know he has a "big budget" but I'm trying to work out if its 20k or 200k - I don't want to overcharge and lose the client but also not undercharge and lose out on loads of potential. The other thing with not charging enough if he still takes me seriously.
