Finding Google Places leads without Scarper

How do you guys find potential Google Places clients without using automation? What criteria do you use before contacting them? I want to go with GP and start getting some business before I invest in a scraper to locate future clients.

Thanks.

Before I got Places Scout, I simply decided on a target business (landscapers, fencing companies, etc.) and searched Google with "business type city state".

I called the ones from the second page and on that had unclaimed pages.

    Simple stuff.

Yes, by the way, I AM in the Witness Protection Program. I could tell you who I am but then I would have to kill you.

Guys, this is so easy it's ridiculous. Go get the yellow pages. Open it to the first page. Start calling. That's it. You don't even need to use your computer.

There's people on this forum that will say "cold calling makes you look desperate!" They can all take a long walk off a short pier. If that's the case, I guess Yext, CitySearch, Yelp, GOOGLE, and Hubspot are all desperate, because they've all cold called me within the last few months.

Truth is, you don't need to do any research before you call these people. Why? Because the point of the call is to uncover their pain and offer them a solution.

    Case and point:

One of my clients is spot C on google places, and he hired me. Why? To keep him there.

Another one of my clients doesn't even have a computer or a website and hired me. Why? So he could stop paying the yellow pages $800/mo.

All this hemming and hawing about trying to figure out strategies and tactics is worthless and time consuming. Would you rather have $1,000 in the bank today or continue to be frustrated because you haven't made a single call?

Great advice, but how do you go about uncovering their pain? How do you intro the call? What do you break the "I'm a guy randomly calling you" ice with a prospect?

using a scraper can save you so much time, I think it is somewhat backwards to try to do it without investing in a scraper first.

With a scraper you can target your prospects much better, by different criteria (do they have images or not, is their plus local page verified or not, do they have any backlinks, etc...).

This gives you a "reason" to be contacting them and they'll be much warmer if you have real info and advice to give them right away.
