How Do You Market To Lawyers?

I owned the domain name lawfirmsuccess.com which I believe is the perfect domain name for either a lawyer marketing company or an information product. But one thing that makes me hesitant about getting started is the fact that lawyers are so hard to market to. A couple of years ago I started a few lawyer websites, got traffic to them and tried to sell some of the space off to lawyers in my area. EVERY SINGLE TIME I called a law firm, the receptionist pretty much shut me down. Many were polite and took down my information but I never received a return phone call for the lawyer themself. Have any of you cracked the code to getting lawyers as clients?

  • The question is "Are you sure you want Lawyers to be your clients?" LOL!!

I use videos to get though to them. I just signed up an attorney yesterday with a video. In talks with 3 more around the country as well.

Lost out on a deal to one on Monday because my code was bullet proof. He used to work for Microsoft and was is a "code monkey"

Yes, I do a quick screencast video of their current site and what I can do for them. I focus on mobile sites as my "foot in the door". Like cold calling, it's a numbers game, but I have been doing it for 6 months and am very happy with how things are going. Last week was a record and not common, but I sent out 25 videos and received 5 leads. Closed one sale yesterday and am working out the details for another today.

How much time does it normally take for you to record the videos? Are you cold emailing the videos to them or are they already expecting it?

At first it took me awhile to get a decent script down. I try to do 10 videos/day 3 times/week. It usually takes me 2-3 hours to do 10.

I have sent close to 500 out so it took some practice. No, these are completely cold. I need to start following up with a phone call as I know that'll increase my sales, but got away from it.

Sent one out Monday, she emailed me and asked price, I sent over a proposal on Monday night and she responded yesterday with a, "Let's do it!"

That is the FIRST time it was that easy though. Very rare, but it can happen

I just bought a wso today whose sole premise is much of what you've posted here today. The wso offered your process of cold emailing as option 2 of 2 options for prospecting.

I'm sure you'll continue to knock it out of the park.

Great to hear about your success.

Do you think mobile sites are something that Law firms really need? I'm just curious because I hear all these people pushing mobile sites and I just don't see the value for most businesses. For a restaurant I can see the benefits, but how many people are really searching for lawyers and other businesses from their phones?

I think all companies will need mobile websites eventually. Mobiles are being used more and more for browsing the net these days.

            Really?

I use my phone for everything when am out and about. I use it a lot on the couch watching TV.

Check the Google search for mobile, you'd be surprised.

I did one for a personal injury attorney and he called me up within a week of us launching it and said that he got a client. The guy had got in an accident, looked on his phone, went through 3 or 4 sites, but couldn't find the phone number. Landed on my client's site and found the number right away and called.

EVERY business needs a mobile website.

One of my favorite quotes is by Wayne Gretzky,

" I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been"

Mobile is the future and the future is here.

I like that Gretzky quote. What do you use to build your mobile sites? I haven't branched out to mobile yet but would like to.

I use Duda Mobile to show them a mock up at it is very quick to do, but usually outsource the design to a Warrior.

Secretaries in Law Firms are pretty much the gatekeepers. They usually won't allow anyone in unless it's something related to a case.

Might I ask how you approached them?

Man was I shocked when I checked my statcounter stats to see that the majority of the visitors to my junk removal site were from mobile devices.

What's interesting to note though is that those who focus on selling mobile websites when speaking with or presenting to prospects, should really hone in on the fact that people are using 'mobile devices' and not just mobile phones to access their potential client's website .

That small distinction could be the difference in helping your prospect wrap their brain around the whole idea of how having a mobile friendly website would help them connect with potential customers who use mobile devices and not just cell phones which a lot of people still don't get. Most do get the concept of ipads and other tablets though.

    Just thinking out loud.

Lawyers are pretty tricky market - seems like you have to be extra careful because they will easily spot flaws in your approach. LOL. But seriously, I came from a family of lawyers and I know that they are obsessed about two things (among others): grammar and details. So be sure to be able to explain every detail that you will be presenting to them.

I EASILY rank keywords for lawyers/attorneys and even for BIG cities but when it comes to renting them, it can be a problem. I always had this problem with my sales guys, but my advantage is that I have professional law study. So, yes, I know what "I" want errrrrrrrrr what "they" want.

May I suggest drilling deep for a sub niche of lawyers? For instance, dog bite attorneys, motor cycle accident lawyers, etc. Then, how about direct mail using a handwritten envelope? School is out and I am sure there are LOTS of school kids with excellent penmanship skills that would love the work.

I have not tried this method. But, remember, a direct mail genius named Gary Haliburton made a FORTUNE doing this. Google his name. His son has a website with all his F*R*E*E wisdom on it.

People still open envelopes that are handwritten.

You need to get your foot in the door and find out who is in charge of their advertising budget - easier said than done, but often all you need to do is pretend to be a potential client via email and ask for some credentials and you will get an email back from someone higher up than the receptionist.

Once you have those contact details, use them to sell your product.
