Question Re: Lead Gen Sites & Keywords

Let's say that I've found a market to target, a category of services that I know about and want to generate leads for. If I picked carpet cleaning, I could target keywords having to do with the type of carpet cleaning (steam, dry, low moisture) or I could target price (deals, coupons, etc.) or just general carpet cleaning (carpet cleaning in city name).

Which is best?

1. Build one carpet cleaning site with multiple pages, for instance one page on general carpet cleaning, one on the various types, and one focusing more on the keywords for the price aspect.

2. Build a one page site that touches on all of those aspects of the keywords on that one page (carpet cleaning in general, outline the various types, and talk about deals and pricing).

3. Build one page sites dedicated to each keyword category. For instance, build a site based on drycarpetcleaningcityname.com, steamcarpetcleaingcityname.com, carpetcleaningcouponscityname.com, carpetcleaningcityname.com, and on and on and on.

Which is the most effective way to rank and hope to generate leads? Is a one page site stuffed with a wide variety of keywords better than one website with multiple pages that address them all, or is it best to separate each as it's own niche and target each with separate websites?

If I'm over thinking it, well, that's par for the course, but I thought that some Warriors here might have some input. I'm learning, and starting to take action, I just got hung up on this one aspect.

Thanks for any advice,
Mike

I wouldn't go with an exact strategy from the beginning. First of all, I would write a big article in which I will include service types (steam, dry, etc.), and other keywords realted to the niche. Make the article look natural. Then, I would do some backlinks to the site and see in my Awstats which keywords are bringing me traffic. Based on this, I would make a separate page for a keyword which is getting a decent amoun of searches. I wouldn't go with different domains as you can do a simple page to include a keyword and that would be fairly enought for it. I would make the design of the site simple with clear Call-to-Action points, testimonials and of course an unique USP (coupon, discount, etc.) Another thing, track every marketing channel you have. You can easily do this with a call tracking platform (use the same number for your site and Google Places Listing.) You can have lots of traffic but if your site is not optimised properly for the visitor, then you'll get less convertions.

You might want to test first by creating a video and ranking it before you spend money on a domain, creating content, etc. Rank a video first, start generating calls and selling the leads. A website can follow and then you will have a lead gen system you can sell or rent to an offline client.

I just bought Keyword Fighter and love it. It has proven to be a great program for me so far, and I believe may be the development of someone from here on the WF. I'm just not sure exactly what strategy of targeting keywords works best, but like the poster above you said, there's no reason I can't try all of the above and do testing.

  • We start with the city name in the domain - carpetcleaningquotesincity.com, then add in additional pages for types -
    carpetcleaningquotesincity.com/steamcleaningpricing.php
    carpetcleaningquotesincity.com/arearugcleaning.php
    and etc.

    hey Mike,

I would say that Google likes concentrated sites better for ranking; your third scenario of getting the domain name to match the keyword. But you could go for the directory site, rank it, and sell to multiple businesses to have their sites featured, or set up in your directory site, and over time just keep ranking it for multiple keywords. The more keywords you can rank for, the more you can charge clients!
