The Most Scalable Offline Model

What is it?

I notice everyone who puts out a WSO says they "CRUSHING IT!"

And crushing it means $4,000/month.

I'm making more than that now. I want to make 10 times that. And every step of offline sales seems so time intensive.

What's the best model that actually scales? And the bigger and the more rapidly the better.

You have to build a team just like any other business.

I trained my team from scratch rather than outsourcing to a company who want to do it their own way.

I've moved away from Offline marketing for local businesses as the more successful I got the harder I had to work.

It's all about owning the trains, not driving them.

There isn't only one scalable model.
    Almost everything can be scaled.

You could go from one person telemarketing to 5 to 50 to 5,000
You could go from direct mailing 5 people to 5,000 people
    You could email, canvass, etc....

The service you offer, wouldn't matter much.
(Referring to the stuff pitched in the WSO section.)
Whether is was FB pages, Mobile sites, SMS, Re-designs, SEO, etc.

Also, you don't necessarily have to sell more to make more.
You could increase your prices and/or cut down on expenses.

To quickly scale the offline model you would be better off offering a product and not a service.

Products just scale much quicker. It helps if the product is a web based product. You won't need as much capital as compared to scaling a service business. Scaling a service business takes a lot of money, time and management. Going from 5 to 50 telemarketers is a big task.

One example would be a guy that does web design for restaurants. That service can't be scaled very quickly and would take capital to grow.

Compare that to a website I recently ran into. It offers a product to restaurants... It's a software system that lets restaurants quickly make and mange their own great looking website. Complete with customizable menus, graphics, maps, the works. Now that type of business can scale very quickly.

I don't know from experience (even though I want to know), but wouldn't a membership of some kind be scale-able?

    Hey Tim,

My company is doing 10x that... it's about being consistent and finding a system that works. We sell a higher price point (starting at $1k/mo for services) and build upon that.

We've built up a team of guys who now know how to go after a certain market. For instance, one strategy is to get a few clients performing well in a certain vertical/segment and then use them as case studies to build more sales. Do a mailer with those case studies. Do an "e-mailer" campaign. Cold call with those case studies to that vertical segment...etc...

If you don't have a team, than it will be pretty hard to scale, as you're only one person with 24 hours in a day. So if you haven't started training a sales staff that's what you'll need to do to really go from a 4-figure a month income to a 5-6 figure a month income.

Thanks Guys. This sounds like sound advice. And Adam, I notice you have a WSO out about how you've done it. It's getting great reviews. If I take your advice and follow your formula, won't I be running right into a powerhouse (you)? I notice you have a couple of websites you harvest for business. Aren't you and I going to be competing for that business?

        Tim,

Reach Local did over 200 million last year providing the same core services that this section of the forum is all about. Adam and many others me included are nothing to be concerned with. = )

Unless of course you are in the same area as Adam is, then you better watch out! :p

Here is how I have made it scalable. I have created a product/service that I sell business owners, it includes a 10 Point Business Plan and Video Training Back Office. I sell it for $1,500 a pop. If that want some one on one consulting, then I charge at least that much on a monthly basis. Still in the offline marketing realm. Got some LinkedInPPC going right now to move this package. Will let you know how it goes from a scalable position.

I love this, sounds quite intriguing actually.

Do you create a new 10point business plan for each business or do you use the same training for all? Are you going after a specific vertical?

      Really interested in this James.

Services can "scale" just as quickly as products can. You're using a service now, with this forum. You'll use another big one when log onto facebook next.

Scalable( for me ) has to do not only the ability to generate more sales or grow customer base, it has to do with the ability to proper handle that growth without compromising quality, For instance , at some point < I grew from 5 reps to 30 (within a month or 2) but I ended up not being prepared to handle that (Scale) business,. Whatever you do to GROW SALES make sure you are also logistically ready to handle that growth. you could still make 10X the amount of sales that you make , but if your business require follow ups, customer service, etc (which I believe it does) then you will ended up not producing new leads/sales and just taking care of customers.
