Landed a 20k ecommerce & $1500 a month, stoked!

Hey Guys,

I posted a while ago regarding a proposal I was putting across to a refferal for a large online store with conversion techniques & on site seo (5000 products). I spoke to him to introduce myself and touch upon the services, he asked me to send over info which I did (typed up a 5 page doc with sales copy but no pricing).

He then met with the guy who reffered me who bigged me up. I phoned today & he said he wanted to go ahead BEFORE I said the price. I said $20k and he agreed just like that. We also done a deal for $1500 a month seo (same as he currently pays another company).

It feels insane, Ive never got more than $5k for an ecomerce before & this deal was pretty easy (I also have a 50% deposit in my bank account for anyone who says its not a deal yet!).

It can be done guys just keep on pushing!

Very true we are all worth big money, with one exception, you must believe you are worth it. If you don't believe, you will never get this kind of deal.

      Thanks for the bump!

Congrats, however, for that sort of layout, please take a step back and ensure that what you are doing for your $38,000+ deal, is actually going to make a difference.

If is very easy to get a project, paying good $, but very difficult to get another if you screw it up, SEO in ecommerce is a very hard matter to master, mainly due to the hidden multiple footprints throughout the code and linkbacks.

You deserve a massive pat on the back, but remember for that sort of outlay, they will expect the earth and more... we know!

      Thanks for the question -

The first point I would address is "they will expect the earth and more" this is the kind of client who knows they need to spend money so are realistic in their expectations not like a small biz client who squeezes for what you can give them!

The pricing I gave was based upon the kind of revenue/profit they do now & the kind of profit/revenue we conservatively will get them, if they get higher than our targets we increase the monthly package so its a win-win all round. Most people on here see this as a massive amount but its not when you compare to what they can achieve.

I have a quick question have you ever done an ecommerce site before this and if you have what type of proposal would you give to your client. Obviously you have to keep it confidental but just in general can you give me an idea of how it would work??

What I can't say is I am an expert in getting these kind of clients (do the same services just not at this cost).

As it was one of my biggest clients who was referring me the deal was not really that hard as they already had my trust. Obviously I had to convince them on pricing and we spent time going over all their aims & done a fair amount of competitor research to get to the final fee.

I don't want to put myself across as a guru to getting these clients & simply put I'm not! I usually target 3-4k clients. Also have done about 8 or 9 ecom sites before this too, for local clients.

      thanks!

Not that I would give it away but why would that be?

Can't help but get a negative vibe from that comment.

I read this earlier and wanted to say well done. It really encourages me to read of other people's success .

I have had an email asking me about what I could offer a business, so this is an encouragement for me to not waste any time and work on a proposal.

    Long may your success continue.

Will you upload inventory to the site, or is that something they will be doing? Are you initially loading it? Ongoing?

I said I will provide assistance. There current site can export in csv but does it really strangely so unsure if it can be imported as is. Either way we will work it out between us - worst come to worst will outsource the data entry and add the cost on.

Congrats! This is a wonderful inspiration to us all. What I liked what that this was a referral as you said and "easy sale". The lesson to be learned here is you never know where you next client is going to come from, so always do a good job no matter what! The end result is you will have people bragging about your service, and sending new clientele your way!

    Keep up the good work!

Wow! Awesome! Congrats! Good Job! Keep it Up! I'm out of accolades, but just wanted to say that you may have unintentionally become my HERO

It's sounds silly, but sharing like you did should be enough to keep others motivated and be tenacious.

And always, always, always sell VALUE NOT PRICE. If the prospect/client sees real value and potential for positive ROI the money often becomes secondary or somewhat moot.

Best of continued success in the second half of 2012 and beyond!

Glad I'm of so use to you guys! In the early days I would have done the price cheap and expect a load of clients. Doesn't work! Now I know how to value myself its getting far better & easier.

Currently have another prospect for £15k - not a done deal but literally so excited I could have 2 big deals!!

Just wanted to say Nownzen, this comment is true, True, TRUE! It's also one of the most difficult elements of working in the online world.

Really seeing your own worth, and recognising the value of all of the services you are offering. To the point that you can make the client focus more on the positive ROI they are getting rather than how much money they will have to take out of their bank account to pay for your services.

    Well done swd....

Interested in finding out which ecommerce platform you will use?

I've done a lot of research for one of my clients and have decided to use Shopp because it has already integrated one of the payment gateways that I need that is specific to my country....

    Best regards

Congrats on the deal! I've deal with cheap ecommerce clients and have found it a huge headache. I'm going to start charging $20k as I'd be willing to do the hard work for that. What are you using for the ecommerce? Magento?

CS Cart version 3 (prior to 3 it was terrible). I hate magento, its so slow even on a local dedicated rackspace server. If it is a smaller client I would use a wordpress cart (have been playing around with jigoshop recently)
