Citations with Different phone Number

My client wants to have a different phone number on the website now that we are going to rank it.

How will this affect rankings if the citations have a different phone number?

Is there a work-around or should I worry about it?

Anyone have a work-around for this or should I tell the customer keeping the phone number the same is a must?

Use the phone number in an image so you don't get any conflicting NAP information over the internet.

If you are using it in videos just put it in the video and don't use the number in any descriptions.

Yes. Make sure you don't have that much of NAP deviations.

In the worst case you could just update all your citations.....

I would ask why they want the diff phone number first of all. You might be able to avoid this problem altogether in case your client is just having a lapse of "the stupid."

Ok. These are all great suggestions.

They want to be able to send the free consultations to an outsource house to qualify the leads. Smart business move on their end. I will certainly not be updating the citations, so thanks!

all you can use that Phone number as alternative text field in citations. And make a Video use that in the video with original number also. Its a good idea to provide an alternative phone number. so don't think its a point of worry. Clients like it.
