In house marketing professionals here?

How many here work in house for companies of various sizes? As of July 1st the sales half of my job is basically done and I will be spending 100% of my time as the in house internet marketing specialist(Marketing Sales Coordinator) for the RV dealership I have worked for the past 4.5 years.

Just wondering how many out there are in a similar position to me. Seems most posting here are doing it as a consultant with their own company.

This would have happened for me years ago but they couldn't justify the salary I wanted before so we kept me doing this extremely part time for the last few years. Really excited to finally be "let loose" and be able to fully focus on driving leads to our sales staff. The more they sell the more I make(base salary plus percentage of gross of course ).

For those doing this in house any words of wisdom? Be a bit different now that my whole career is riding on it. In the end though it just drives me to be more successful.

Also for those of you who do this as consultants would you take an in house offer or do you prefer to own your own business. One of the reasons i like being in house is for insurance reasons. In the US it is way easier and cheaper to get insurance working for a company vs your own small business.

I left an in house SEO and marketing role to run my own business, for the simple reason that working 8 hours for a set wage may be very comfortable yet it is also extremely restrictive, I made really good money but it really was up to somebody else how much I made, regardless of how much I was making them.

Words of advice, automate as much as possible, put systems in place so that for every situation has a plan and a plan b, this ensures that you don't just sort of wing it each time you have to do something. It will also save you a **** load of time if you have a set system in place and all you have to do is follow it.

Also NEVER take your work home, I literally switched off my brain to anything work related the minute I left the building, I found that this allowed me to be sharp and at my creative best the next day for work rather than burning my brain out thinking about what coolm**** I was going to do the next day.

Finally, talk to your sales guys, they know exactly the type of people they can sell to and how to target them. I once had a conversation with the best sales guy at my company in the bathroom one lunch time (it was super romantic) and he told me one sentence that literally changed my entire technique of attracting leads, it will mean nothing to anybody outside of the telecoms industry so I won't share it here but his commissions went through the roof because i was sending him the exact type of leads he wanted.

These things may be different for you but I wish I'd known them before I started.
