For You College Boys, Girls & Graduates: You Have An Untapped Resource
I realize that there is an ongoing debate about whether or not college makes you successful, and so on. I have an opinion but that is not what I am sharing here. If you have been to college, then you probably have an untapped resource, as I am beginning to discover.
It is your alumni network.
First, typically, your college's alumni society WANTS to promote your success, so one thing you need to do is let them know what you are doing. If your college puts out an alumni magazine, they typically print the stories of some of their graduates, as well as graduates who are doing things to help others.
Also, your college loves to tap alumni who are willing to speak on entrepreneurship. You would be an excellent resource because not only are you an entrepreneur yourself, but you help them also. You would be surprised who you meet up with on alumni day. I will give you a hint: other entpreprenuers.
If you school does alumni events around the country, it will not hurt you to attend. And at this point, it really doesn't matter how much you goofed off during college. There is a treasure trove of contacts for you, if you are willing to explore them.
If you are bold, you can put on seminars for segments of your alumni society. You will not be the first to offer them, and you will be quite transparent to them that you want their business, but trust me...these days somebody wants to hear what you know. There is some dude in his cubicle with this project in his basement desperate to see what he can do. And you will resonate with them.
I will be doing an expanded post in my Warrior Forum blog later on, but I think that you get the point. Regardless of what you think about your college experience and whether you think your degree is worth it; your greatest resource is probably not your experience (even though for some of you this was very valuable), its probably not your 'friends' (even though you probably did make life long relationships), it is...as an entrepreneur, your built in professional network.
But you have to work it to activate it.
