Offline Alternatives To Local Newspaper Display Ads And Flyer Distribution - UK,US, Canada and EU.

Several of my restaurant clients wanted me to "invent" new ways to promote their businesses both cheaper and more effective than using local paper display ads and flyers distribution. Any good ideals? Also could anybody let me know the rate of local paper display ads in your area/country? Just a rough indication of let say a business card size. Thanks in advance.

    - Facebook - put some offers up using the new offer solution from them found at

    and engage with their clients on the wall, do contests
    - Seo
    - Google Local+
    - Improve their main website: add e-mail capture forms to send specials as often as you want to their list
    - Create Mobile Website for them, do some SMS marketing
