Young voice cold calling.

Hello guys, I've been meaning to call for a week not but my barrier is actually my age. I'm just 18 years old and I think that people are not going to take me seriously because I don't have an "aged" voice. Have any people my age here had the same issue? How did you deal with it? Thanks in advance.

Your age doesn't mean ****, stop sweating the small stuff and deal with any objections to you "young voice" as and if they come.

I'm willing to make a bet that you don't have a single issue with sounding young.

Most of the cold callers who work around here in telemarketing firms are young 18 year olds looking to make some quick cash.

In all honesty, I sound like a 15 year old boy going through the "Peter Brady, time to change" phase on the phone if I am not careful...

But you know what? It doesn't matter. People talk to me anyway... these issues are only issues if you allow them to be. JUST CALL, people won't bite... and those rare ones that do... aren't biting because you sound young... they're biting because they're miserable and about to crack anyway...

This question comes up all the time...too young...too old...too ethnic...too whatever.

You are going to run into 2 types of people in the world:

Those who DON'T care about what ever it is that you believe you're "too much" of

    and

Those who DO care about it.

Your job is to find the first group and ignore the second.

I'm 18 as well, and I don't have the deepest voice on the planet either. Yeah, it'll drive some people to want to hang up on you. But in all honesty, these people wouldn't be great to work with anyway. Just be a bit careful and try not to be too high pitched.

So long as you keep calling, you're sure to get a client. And age won't matter to them. It's the solution you're providing that matters.

On a last note, sometimes they'll even respect you for the position you're in. You're a young entrepreneur who's just trying to make a good living. Some business owners understand and want to help out.

The phone is your best friend buddy. You can be who you want to be. That's why I started in tele-sales.

Just use your young energy, and carry it through to the other end.

...Never had any problems selling over the phone at a young age. Remember there will always be an excuse for not doing something.

It's all good, just have some pep in your step. A lot of startups are younger and now this is generally accepted.

As long as you know what you are talking about it doesn't matter if you are 18 or 58. Take action and the $ will follow

The biggest thing is just if you let it get to you - if you go in feeling a certain way, it WILL be that way. Show confidence, be an expert in your topic - sell them that you are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Well try using something like this, if you're so paranoid about how you sound: Cell Phone Telephone Voice Changer Spy Voice Disguiser | eBay

    LOL

On a serious note, your voice tonality can be controlled. Look up some videos on Youtube on tonality and practice speaking from your stomach, rather than the back of your throat. So your voice vibrates all the way up your chest and out of your mouth.

I started cold calling when I was 15 years old. I never had anyone question my voice ever. Just start dialing and you'll be fine. Good luck!

A big asset is a young sounding cheery voice. Theres a lot of of stress out there in the workplace. If you can be a bright spot in their mundane day, theyre more apt to keep listening to you.

I found when I was playing with different tones and volume in my voice that the younger I sounded, the longer I could keep them on the phone. They were caling me "honey" and "dear".

You have to work a littler harder on credibility but this is easy to do if you know your product/service.

Yeah, it's not really an issue at this point. Give it a try, you might be surprised. It might be an advantage too, you never know unless you try.

    Confidence is the key.

I totally agree with Sue Bruce. Also remember, you're 18, you are an adult!

You can do it! But yeah I have the opposite effect. I look like i'm 15, actually 21 but a have a deep voice and have been told often I should go into radio. So maybe that'll help my cold calling a bit.

      deep voice = "Good".

But not deep insnt bad either... it depends on how you wear it. Just be yourself, some will like you and some will be indifferent to you.

If you very self-conscious about your voice, use it to your advantage ... "I know I sound young, I hear that all the time, but, when my customers see how I can xxxx, they are amazed".
