$7200 Check - Biggest Yet!

Been working the local Marketing scene for around 8 months now. Since my first week I had residuals. I went from $100 to $147 to $247 to as high
as $1200 a month. Baby steps... Now I just scored $7200 for an ecommerce site and $1600 a month. Just letting people know not to give up. I started by talking to relatives with businesses and making their websites. Then went uptown and most locals need websites and SEO to boot. Slowly but surely I got more and more confident. Manta helped me see who the big boys were so when I met with them I knew I could ask for more per month and not get the deer in the headlights look. This forum
helped me see what was working and what was not. Piece by piece it all formed from within the WF.

Thanks to the Posters and Threadmasters of the WF...

    Congratulations...you're obviously doing something right.

Just curious...what service(s) are you providing that gets them to pay you $1,600/month?

For the most part the $7200 was for an ecommerce site. Then they wanted SEO and for me to set up and run their facebook page. So between the SEO and FB = $1600 monthly. I gave them the price and expected them to bicker a bit and I'd go down to $1200. But it was OK
      here's your $7200 check we're all in.

I started the biz as SEO from the get go. Local is easy to get rankings.
Worldwide is a bit harder for the big names. The WF has the experts to outsource to so they have ya covered. You need Like 10 customers and you're golden...

Good job for sure mate...Question..On the ecommerce site are you doing it from scratch? How many products are they looking to sell? I only ask because there are e-commerce platform sites you could use but from scratch sounds like a HUGE project.

Working on Real Estate companies now. They seem to be interested in mobile and SEO. I have 2 proposals out for $5K up front $2500 a month. I'll find out middle of next week if I have another sale. One thing you guys may not understand is that companies are backing out of print ads. This leaves tons of money in their marketing pot. My sister was a top sales rep at the local paper and told me some of the Realtors were paying $40K a year on print ads. Let alone car dealers were paying
upwards of $10K a month. Right now the value in print ads is diminishing...

    Great post.

Most people try to complicate this business model but doing quite simple things and continuing to do them is what will get you to where you want to be.

And that starts with talking to some business owners (relatives, friends, owners of businesses where you spend some money etc etc).

I imagine you now find that many of the things you worried about starting out are total non issues (and you kind of wonder why you ever worried about them)?

    Kindest regards,
    Andrew Cavanagh

I think the initial worry is looking like you are a professional business. Putting that first proposal together and making it look sharp and make sense was an all nighter.
I also remember that I was a bit freaked out about finding a good looking invoice
software. I found freshbooks did the job...http://tinyurl.com/Invoicetrial

It reminds me that working online is a great opportunity to do. I remember the time when I was starting a blog and seems like getting viewer is the hardest part to do. But, as time goes by, as I'm gaining knowledge and experience on how to drive traffic, work pays by itself.

    @Mach1Marketing,

Thanks for sharing that case-study. Quick question, does Manta provide you with phone numbers or just names of businesses along with their address?

Congrats! It's amazing to see how it scales up, isn't it? Goes to show that with hard work you can get there.

And yes, you can see revenue on Manta once you sign up for free. That's a goldmine, and one determining factor in deciding which businesses you want to target.

When I started offline marketing, those first paychecks meant so much more than just money in the bank....it meant confidence and competence with what I was doing. From there, it allowed me to gain so much momentum and scale to much bigger things....

Great job on going from $150 to $7.2k....now make the jump to $30k. =)

Sdotspells - Yeah that would be nice...my basking in the glory is short lived as you are only as good as your next deal. But being able to provide proof to the naysayers
is priceless. Sure it is a good chunk of change but the reason for me getting into SEO/Online Consulting/Website Tech was for the residuals. As it stands now that $7200 was up front and the monthly is $1600. It includes SEO ($1200) and Facebook management ($500). I do still have my job but they pay my insurance and I can't quite get my head around quitting and losing $40k a year. The upside is the stress is down cuz I can leave at any time and showing pics of my checks to "Upper Management" makes my day. These same people said this Ex Marine NCO probably couldn't handle leading people... So they gave me no chance for a promotion. Thus my fire to succeed burned a bit brighter. My advice would be cruise this forum, buy
some WSO's and learn. In a few weeks things will start to click, then Take Action!

Hi Mach1, inspiring!! Do you outsource all your work, web design, seo etc? Did you work up to that or have been outsourcing from the start?

I learned the basics of Wordpress and got a feel for it but outsourcing is your best bet. Outsourcing simple sites costs $50 - $100 and you can charge $300 - $900.
Obviously more complex sites are more. But the local crowd is looking for a simple five pager. I usually do a quick Animoto video before my presentation which adds credibility when I am talking things thru. In fact that usually puts the ball in my court and many times closes the deal, as clients love the way the videos make them look like Rock Stars. Plus just a little SEO gets the video placed on Googles first page in hours.
