MOBILE COUPONS QUESTION - PREVENTING FRAUD

Hi!
We are developing a program which allows vendors to offer mobile coupons that customers can bring into a store to redeem. What in your opinion is the best way to prevent abuse. The vendors have indicated that they don't want people coming in multiple times showing the same coupon over and over again..
We have two programmers working on this, who will build what we need, but we just need some creative and effective suggestions.
Thank you so very much in advance.

What if you had each coupon generate a unique tracking code, or a one time use code? OR, what if you setup some kind of "digital punch card" system?

You could also just have the coupon's have an expiry date that is obviously on the coupon, and then have the vendor have new coupons, say monthly, so that the same coupon is not sitting around forever to BE potentially abused.

Yes that is what he means.

So in this instance, as the coupon is on a phone, the vendor would simply bash a nail through the screen with a hammer.

This will immediately solve the problem of multiple redemptions to the vendors satisfaction.

ROFL... well, that's sure one way to do it. :p Yea, that's what I mean, but I was thinking more along the lines of a digital punch or loyalty redemption... since she's got a couple of programmers, I am sure they could figure this out. I saw a similar concept being used by a cafe near me. Really cool.

Or you know, what about having people opt in to an SMS list to get their coupons... that way, if the owner knows how many people are on his list, he should have a rough idea of how many coupons went out, and how many should be redeemed... of course it's not THAT simple... but at least ALL the coupons wouldn't be all over the place... the customer has to opt in to get the good ones..or those with more flexible usage terms. Does that make sense?

I'm not really sure I see the Vendors logic in not wanting people to keep coming in his store and buying stuff.

Yeah...I know...the Vendor believes he is losing money every time he gives out a coupon.

    Trouble is...he's wrong.

He's gaining a sale from that person at a point in time it would not have happened naturally. So he's actually gaining profit every time a coupon is used....a smaller one yes...but a profit nonetheless.

The more times you can recycle someone through your doors...especially when most of the time there are other people tagging along with them....the more money you make.

Not everyone is going to abuse coupons. There will be some who do...I say let them...and then hope they get used.

    just my 2 cents.

I've seen 2 different solutions for this. Lime Cellular places
a redeem button on the mobile coupon that, when pressed,
eliminates that coupon from the member's system.

Signal Mobile let's you set the number of times the coupon
may be viewed before it locks them out.

I don't use Tumpia, but their mobile coupon system generates unique coupon codes for each phone number and I think it's the best I've seen so far.
