Opinion's Needed---Web Strategy

I'm working with a client who rent's luxury goods--cars, boats, condos/houses and I've shown them a different angle they can use to approach a certain segment of their business and they plan to put my advice to action.

I'm strongly suggesting a new website for this but they want to use their current site and just add a new area. While they're may be some overlap between the two segments I don't think its enough to continue using the current site.

A new site will allow them to fully go after this new segment without the baggage of the current one.

To me, it's a no-brainer but obviously I'm not communicating a crucial element.

Whay would you guys and gals do/say?

Is the site producing them revenue? If it is, can you guarantee a revamp will improve revenue,
or at least be equal to what they have now?

Or they might be emotionally attached to the site...

My question is this: Did you ask them why they don't want to change it?

Ask them why not, whatever answer they give you, you should be able to answer if this is truly what they need.

Maybe you could suggest some micro sites for each service as additional to what they already have?

The site doesn't produce revenue on its own (it's not an e-commerce site) but is a factor for people who book rentals with the company. The owners feel it best represents the company, which it does for the present clientele, but IMO something different is needed for the new segment.

They're worried about brand erosion but in this situation I don't think the brand will be damaged.
