Just Picked Up A MEGA Contract! Want To Know How?

Hiya Warriors,

What a start to my week! Picked up what is going to be a really sweet contract for website design & graphic design in my local area.

Want to know how they came to me?
How They Chased ME Down?

Well its really easy...... Local classified ads!

Every fn I place an ad in my local print publication, its free for me and $2 for customers to buy. I get a min 1 client a month (but normally more)

I posted it here on warrior almost a year ago (I think) about the power of classified ads. The key is repetition.

I find out when the deadline is (for print) and mark it in my calender 2 days prior, I set a reminder and then I email them my ad once it pops up..... SIMPLE

The thing about classified ads is they are warm leads already per-qualified, so the sale is normally very easy to close.

Even if your town doesn't have a little classified print if you are looking for ideas to make money maybe you could start one! It would be pretty easy to start up

Our local print is black and white and is A4 folded in half, its free to advertise and $2 to buy. They are for sale at the servo, newsagents etc

KISS - Keep - It - Simple - Stupid

Have a great week

Emma

Unfortunately classifieds are not used in my area anymore (especially print). Business owners don't go to them for anything.

I advertise in the "Business" section.

The entire classifieds is targeted at buying and selling locally - mostly second hand goods.

I do have a landing page, however 99% call without ever visiting it!

I advertise that I services I offer eg: website design, SEO, graphic design (which I use GKWT to see what people are looking for in my area) You see, if they are looking online then they will be looking offline too!

I also advertise that we can customize any design or development needs to a businesses specific needs

That's a twist. In our area, classified print publications charge everyone to place an ad but their distribution is free to reading customers.

Well, I guess the publication attracts more ads that way.

I do think that are some collector car classified ads publications that are only available by purchasing but I think they also charge for ads to be placed.

Congrats Emma. I think your idea is brilliant! We aren't using print as much in the states but the message I get from this is ... you plant the seeds somewhere you know "they" (Business Owners) will be looking, and your ad will consistantly be in front of them... like branding - Great JoB

      That is exactly it!

Its about putting your product in a place it will be found by your target audience and repetition of advertising!

Yeah classifieds do pull in a healthy amount of Leads, and the best thing about it is that all the Leads are warm and much more simple to convert.

A thing I'd like to stress with classifieds is to be consistent. If you want to generate a ton of Leads, you need to be putting your ad out there and in front of your target audience at every chance you can get.

Once you build familiarity, your classified will begin to generate a lot more warm leads.

        Emma,

Is there anything comparable to phone.com in Australia?
I want to set up a directory site - every buiness on there will have the same phone number.
Then I can log the calls and show clients authoritively how many leads are being generated from the site.

        Cheers

We have little papers like that where I live but I'm pretty sure you have to pay for it. I don't think it is much though. Will definitely look into writing up a decent copy and getting it published to test it out.

Most of these papers charge the advertiser. Ours charges a flat rate for 10 words w/an additional charge per word for every word over 10. It also offers discounts to senior citizens and non-profits.

I use them to call advertisers who do not have a website listed in their ad. Picked up some nice contracts that way. So these things can be a two way street. My thinking is to be proactive and go after the biz.

good post Emma and good luck to you.

One thing I can add onto this is that in AU (Australia) the market is incredibly hot right now. It's about where the US was 5-6 years ago. I say this because I had a consulting client that had about 400 clients and most of them were in AU. Classifieds down there work great. It really depends on the area in the US. If you are in the US and can work at night you can do really well in AU right now. If you are in AU, even better!

Some interesting ideas here - I use the classified ads for offline busniess services but haven't used them to get seo work - don't know why, About 20words in my local freebee costs about $25 per placement. Should be able to get an ok ROI on that.....
