Having My Dad Do Door to Door Sales

My Dad was recently laid off, he's a sales guy, so I asked him if he'd like to help me grow my SEO business.

Now, he knows very little about SEO, in fact he didn't even know what it was up until last week when I trained him.

Anyways, we've had some success so far. It's only been a week and he's contacted 16 businesses. Granted it's been door to door, not over the phone and he took Friday off for a funeral.

The cool thing is in each case he actually talked to the decision maker. Even if the person was out of the office he got their info and called them the next day.

So far he's contacted Jewelers and Office Furniture Stores. Jewelers I think are a gold mind (pun not intended). Office Furniture maybe not so much. 2 People have said they're interested and another said they are current looking at SEO vendors and would get back to us.

I'd recommend going door to door if you can.

Next on my list are home builders, wedding planners, remolding companies, dentist and chiropractors.

Since I know a lot of people aren't ready to do Door to Door sales are there any other industries that you'd like for my Dad to test out to see if they would be worth the effort?

I'll report all our findings.

that is a wonderful way to have your dad involved in this business that will also create a great bond between you guys

      super excellent

I would make him your partner and think about ways to scale this up

let me tell you since 99% of people on this board are afraid to cold call imagine the fear of just going out and making face to face calls... ohhh nooooo

face to face salespeople are a rare dying breed.

I think having your dad by your side through this ventures is awesome.....having someone who will do your dirty work for you and still help you out at the same time.
I have a few suggestions for you that you might find interesting....not trying to sell you on anything but would love to chat...

Portland Rocks, after 3 clients in the same niche within one market all of your good keywords are used up. So, do you compete against yourself for the same keywords for different clients? To me that is unethical.

Consider having your Dad call on Accountants. Once you prove to them that you deliver what you promise, you and your Dad can get many leads and referrals from them. You might get a few leads and referrals from other business owners but who knows more business owners... a dentist or an accountant?

      Cheers,
      Steve

we started our business by door-to-door sales too! We can understand how difficult it is to get the sales the hard way, but this is also one of the most effective way.

I was reading another thread the other day about doing free SEO for the local business even before you approach them for sales, I think this is rather a good soft-sell approach to start with if you are confident will your SEO skills.
