how do you find paid ads in the yellow pages uk?

All the ads at Yell - the UK's local business search engine look the same, and there doesn't seem to be any obvious "paid ads" in their setup...

Am I wrong here?

how do I find who's paying for online yellow page ads in the UK?

Thanks,

Nick

    Hi Nick

Yell Online works on prominence ie where the listing is.

There is Medium, Heavy and Sponsored.

So it is not the Ad that tells you as YP give you absolutely tons of stuff for free. Videos, maps, listings, mobile, even Augmented Reality on a smartphone. Not that many people know this or care as most is local so irrelevant.

So broadly, YP physical is Alphabetical but you will see that online this is not the case.

If there are 6 pages of results then the top 3 spots are the Sponsored ones and they usually say sponsored. There may not be 3 because maybe no one paid.

Then there are the next load which may be the first page which are the Heavy and then there will be 2 pages of Medium and the last 3 will be free.

So broadly any above the median has been paid for.

If everything is in Alphabetical order then no one has paid for anything so YP just list it.

Does that sort of help you? Take top 30% and you should be safe. You can also work out what they paid too.

Play about with this and you will see the prices for different things.

Additional to this is obviously their paid websites and SEO etc but that is migrating to HIBU.

PS: And you may have noticed in the last couple of weeks YP starting to dominate Google Searches when you Google something. Usually it is YP, Thomson, Little Green Book that sort of thing then the 7 listing things (is that what GP is I don't know this stuff) then the organic stuff.
