Google+ Local listing help

Hey,
As a clients' webmaster a few months back I deleted their Google Places listing which was based on an old Yellow Pages site and had minimal information (because I couldn't get rid of it any other way) and created a new Google Places listing for them based on their new website,
with a good deal more information, images, etc., which went through the Google places verification process ok,

but the new listing (which is now a plus.google.com address) does not show up in the search results at all - you have to know what the url is to go there or find it at all
- Anybody have any ideas what did I do wrong, and how can I fix it?

PS: other businesses in the same search are showing up that aren't optimized at all, so it isn't a lack of page/listing optimization on my part
PPS: I've posted this question on the appropriate Google Groups forum but haven't heard anything back yet. I'm betting on finding better/faster information here!

Google local listings is now Google places and incorporates google+ somehow. Its been very difficult to get a listing verified for so many people lately. The control panel view has changed so

those updates may be part of the problem. I emailed them to get help in my case using the help tab....

Google plus is still in its infancy stage and there are still some fluctuation that we can encounter.

I'm surprised you weren't just able to change the website URL and other information after claiming that first listing. If you were able to delete it, that would mean you had control of the listing.

I assume you only recently created that new one? It can take months for new listings to show up in the SERPs.

I wouldn't waste time, though... use this time constructively by claiming and fixing all business listings you can. You should also be building as many new citations as you can, filling out profiles completely.

Get active in the Google + and other social spaces, too.

You should also look into sitemaps, KML, tweaking the website, etc. Unfortunately, there's a lot more that goes into optimizing a listing than just the images and video.

    I hope that helps.

Thanks for all your replies and help. Through all this process it has become quite clear that is by far best to try to work with an existing Places/+/Local listing rather than deleting and creating a new one, because it takes so long to get it to rank. This is a totally different animal, it seems, from standard onpage and offpage SEO, and the whole system is in quite a state of flux so let this be a cautionary tale and don't delete any existing listing, even if you are worried about possible "dupes" (duplicate listings).

Exactly Matt. Its feels like back to base, back to Zero.

Standard! Yes, that's the word Matt. Google is stripping all the spams and looking forward to all natural and standard tactics on SEO.

If you're ever concerned with dup. listings... just contact Google support. They are extremely helpful and can accomplish a lot with a simple support request. I regularly email with them and have never had a problem getting dupes taken care of. I've had unverified ones deleted by their support, and that has saved me weeks of waiting.
