wea week ago i posted that i had made something like $700 in one day with cold calling, however that business owner then wanted a refund. so i carried on dialling, got some business owners interested in setting up some phone appointments. so the one i calls today last week he was happy with a website and seo for around $1200, so i phone him back today.

"the thing is, my friend said he can get it done for $250." thats what he said.

then he goes on to saying that some kid in his wife's school can make him a website.

so i dont know whether to laugh or just give up on the human race.

These things happen, don't try to convince a penny pincher in my honest opinion. That person will get what they pay for. A kid that probably doesn't have any idea about marketing, how to properly make a lead gen site, etc. Still be happy for that kid who's going to make some money for his skills.

You've got thousands upon thousands of numbers. Don't be discouraged by this. Look, you got two people interested... That's not something to discourage you, it should motivate you that this is possible. Keep doing what you're doing.

    Qualify In or Out!

    The cheapskate isn't your customer.

It doesn't matter what the individual says. Keep moving.

"I understand. Say, if this guy can do it so cheaply for you...why haven't you done it already? There must be a reason." Keep digging. Find the pain. Speak to that pain.

And good for you for continuing to call instead of being back here every 5 minutes!

Your above him -- he's a loser dope. Unless you can address the "you get what you pay for" vibe, then YOU can HIM.

Why don't you tell him something like "go ahead, but can I check back with you in a couple of months".

Put it on you calender to call him back in 3 months and see where he stands.

just finished my cold calling for the day, made around 80 calls. had one rudish customer, but ive got a way to deal with them now, its sort of like a game. when they start screaming or shouting i try as quick as i can to end the call, that way i can imagine them screaming at the phone and then realising theres no one on the end of the call. dont know if its useful to anyone else but it keeps me dialing.

out of the 80 calls i got two sales. i quoted them on the phone and they both said "thats a bloody good deal". im charging just under $400 a site due to the fact they were both painters and didnt want anything fancy. so not a huge ammount but not bad for two hours of calls either

so noobs if your stuggling then keep going, sometimes i feel like bashing my head into the wall, but this money makes it a little less stressful.

      Nice job!

Remember, those a-holes screaming/being rude at you -- think of how HORRIBLE they are as businessmen.

Why would ANYONE want to do business with a guy who treats people like that?

I laugh at their ridiculousness and mock them on how dumb they have to be to scream/be rude to an honest person like that. I couldn't imagine how pathetic their life/business must be. I feel better by then.

Do you have any other options than cold calling? I have been full time Offline Marketing for over 4 years now and have never done a cold call, I wouldn't even know what to say...lol...
Why not become your own customer? Build some websites and position yourself and services where people are searching for them. Attend some local mixers and meet up groups or heaven for bid, try some targeted direct mail. Find a niche, dentist, dry cleaners, contractor, look for people that need websites, then mail them a white hand written envelope with a one page sales letter in it. I feel you close rate would be much better than all that dialin for dollars.

Well the OP could try several methods. It all depends on what you want to do with your time.

Very few people have been rude to me in my calling career...and I won't put up with it. As someone else said above, why waste your time and energy on someone like that--they aren't your customer and never deserve to be.

Calling is an odd thing...it's tough...it's tough...it's tough...and suddenly it's not tough any more and you make sales and you'll never go back to it being tough. You're in your early stages, so stick with it: this is a valuable skill that will help you for the rest of your life.

I've dealt with quite a few rude ones, the first ones are discouraging and really annoying, but after having a couple of rude people, you can just shrug it off and move to the next one. Think of it as an advantage for you, I don't think you would want to work with kind and cooperative people that suddenly turns into monsters while you're working with them lol.
