Legality Of Email Marketing To Generate Leads

So I've looked around for any and all info i could find and I didn't find much at all. All I know is that just about every WSO provider selling offline related WSO's are all telling people to go out and email random businesses to generate leads. Wouldn't this be considered spam being that the recipient didn't express prior authorization? and wouldn't the FCC be all over this?

    It depends....
    If you are using a scraper to mine e-mail leads then probably yes it could be spam.
    If you visit a company website with contact info or find an ad online asking for said services then no.

      Me too and I'm willing to share. As for the original question, nope the FCC won't be all over it. Emails are public as they are listed on the webistes or in correspondence. It is the content that'll get you in trouble. Think porn, hate, threats, etc.

    Hey Salashwal...FCC, not sure, but the FTC...that's another story and you'd best get the answers straight from them at CAN-SPAM Act: A Compliance Guide for Business | BCP Business Center

    I would think they've got better things to do than go after small business owners legitimately trying to help other businesses, but I still think there are better ways to get your name in front of prospects.

    Personally, I'm always amazed that guys who want to sell services and make hundreds or thousands of dollars from a business are cheapskates and turn to the cheapest and least effective marketing methods like cold emailing first. Sure it's "safe" and there's less up front financial risk involved, but it's also likely to get filtered out before it gets to your prospect or deleted in a second once it hits their in box.

    I offered an approach to cold calling in another thread and the same method can be used with email. I use it myself with great success.

    Let's say your contacting Cool Carpet Cleaning
    You can send an email to the business through their contact us page.
    You simply say "Please get back to me I need to know Do you do commercial carpet cleaning?
    Also, How tight is your schedule right now? would you be able to handle 3 to 4 jobs per week?
    Please get back to me or perhaps I could stop in and talk to you about it? Let me know

    Be sure to use a free email account like gmail or yahoo. Guarantee you fill up your appointment book.

    When the business owner gets back to you just set up an appointment to go see him if that is possible. If your doing most everything remotely then just set up phone call. The purpose then at the appointment is to let him know you can send him whatever it is that you say you can do and then explain how and for how much. He will do the numbers in his head. Should be an easy close at that point.
