The first video he refers to an incoming call,
    not outbound cold call.

Did he talk about outbound cold calls later?

    Best,
    Ewen

It actually doesn't really specify if he is talking about inbound or outbound. The main focus is on the techniques and mistakes he discusses. Could be used for any form of call.

The opening question he asked his audience was something like this...

"What do you say to the caller who asks to send a brochure?"

When you break down the sales process you look for ways to better each part of it.

And my initial thought, because I didn't watch the rest,
was he was just dealing with responses to phone calls coming in, which was not what I expected after reading your heading, Cold Callers.

        So naturally tuned out.

        Best,
        Ewen

That's because the video starts in the middle of what he was saying. He was referring to them giving the "send me info" objection and is explaining how to overcome it.

The videos are all about cold calls.

Don't be so quick to tune out next time, you might something you were looking for

Great videos - thanks for the links

To get the accent you'd have to be born in mid-Ulster, probably Armagh or Tyrone.

    Yeah, it's just a put-off...

"So, Jim, if I send you this information...how will it help you make a decision?"

"Mmhmm? OK. And how much time do you think you'll need to review it?"

"All right. So I'll send the info...and then I'll call you in _____ to talk about it. Will morning or afternoon be better for you?"

@Jason, what you said is true. To increase the effectiveness too its always good to get them to commit to something also, like asking the prospect to read the material and have some questions about what they read ready for you. If you can get a commitment like that it will increase success with follow ups. Most people don't like to go back on an agreement to perform an action. Much better than just sending it and asking them to read.

What he is suggesting in the beginning of the video however is how to brush that objection aside and continue with qualifying questions. Great way to salvage the call and make the sale if you are good at qualifying and making them realize their pain.

Jason, I think that is good in 'theory'. But the truth of the matter is the majority of people don't like to be 'tricked' like that. I will occasionally get a telemarketer that tries that trick on me, 'what works better for you x or x?' And I'm always like, I never said either works better for me, no thank you.

Theory? Yes it sounds good. Actuality? I don't like to try and 'trick' my clients or potential clients into commitments. I'd rather get a solid commitment because they see value in what I have to offer as opposed to a commitment because I used slick wording.

I still think back to another cold call thread here that suggested a simple approach - "You wouldn't be interested in any life insurance, would you?"

It stuck with me because you're qualifying as quickly as possible LOL

    I wonder if that works.

Anyway... not to derail. Great share. I'm starting to get interested in cold calling.

That just makes it waaay too easy to say no. Even people who are qualified will say no because they know it is going to be some salesman just pitching them.

Eventually you would get a sale with that method but that could take thousands of calls instead of hundreds.

Cold calling is like most things in life, it requires a certain level of finesse.

      • good thread to see.

I am taking note from cash, ewen, jason esp. ... and others.

        keep it coming.

P.S. - I do "take aways", maybe we want what we think we may not be able to get.
        but thats just me.

Yea this is a really bad question.

You are giving your prospect a way out. And if they say, "No!" then you have no where to go, you just ended your own call before you had a chance to start it.

Not only that but it is also very timid.

Sales people, cold callers, and telemarketers (not the good ones) ask this because it also gives them a way out. It allows them to get off the phone quickly because they are scared that if they stay on the phone any longer that prospect might holler at them. (which rarely happens by the way)

It's actually quite sneaky because once they are off the phone they can then rationalize to themselves and their boss that the reason they didn't make the sale was that the prospect wasn't interested.

      • Tydowns,

Like what you said here :

Theory? Yes it sounds good. Actuality? I don't like to try and 'trick' my clients or potential clients into commitments. I'd rather get a solid commitment because they see value in what I have to offer as opposed to a commitment because I used slick wording.

        like the idea of solid.

My response ("send me something) :

Maybe..... but don't want to send junk mail or your time.
If this is your way of being polite, I appreciate it. But maybe we should end the conversation or does this _______ sound like a good option?
I can handle a yes or no.

I like "take aways" and what I term " verbal contracts"

this is my opinion. just want to chime in and maybe something here helps and/or I learn something I'm not seeing.

No problem, that's what we're all here for right? We always have more to learn, no matter how much experience we have.
