How long does it take google places to update?

Hey guys. I signed up my business for google places about 1 month ago and I put down 1 category and a 1 sentence description with no pics while they sent me the postcard. Then I entered the pin from the postcard, etc and just about 2 weeks ago I updated my places page with 5 categories, a good description, 10 pictures, but my page still does not update. It still has 0 pictures, 1 category and a 1 sentence description, however even with the little that it has it still ranks at #7 for some less searched keywords, so it's not sand boxed?

I doubt I did something wrong as far as keyword stuffing or spamming. I see that on the places guidelines say it takes a couple of day to update, but over 2 weeks? I read somewhere that maybe 7 weeks?

Anyway, also I created a google plus page as well, but do I basically copy the stuff from my places page or should it have a different description, and different pictures? Don't know exactly how the merging process of both the places page and the google plus local works. If someone could enlighten me that would be great!

The other thing is sometimes after an update, you have to "poke" your listing.
Login to the dashboard, and click edit, then click submit. You don't have to edit anything, just click submit.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Also, do you know much about the places and google plus page merging? Should both pages be the same as far as description and pictures?

You can merge them manually right now, but I would recommend you don't. It cannot be undone and we're still very much in the beta stage with this.

But to answer your particular question, I would suggest you use the same photos and description, but more. You can't add much to the G+ Local listing, so you should add much more to your G+ Page.

Regarding the update of listings. Poking is a good idea. No need to do it more than once a month, though. Seeing changes in a listing can take up to 7 or 8 weeks, but if poking doesn't work, and if you don't see the changes for those 7-8 weeks, you should definitely submit a ticket as explained above. These problems can sometimes be from duplicate listings and their automatic merging, or having more than one Google account controlling the listing. This does happen and messes things up a lot.

After you submit your initial request and get a reply... reply to their reply and ask them to make sure there aren't any dupes or 2nd admins on the listing.

And it's worth mentioning that you should poke your listing on a monthly basis and use the update box on a month basis. This will dramatically cut down on the chances of dupes developing.

    Hope that helps.
