What's the best way to take paypal payments via cold call?

I have a team of telemarketers ready to hit the ground running but I am stuck as to which path is of least resistance when getting the business to pay via Paypal. What are some good ideas to accomplish this?

We only accept Paypal because you can use credit card to pay if you don't have a Paypal account. We just send them an invoice through Paypal to pay. HTH!

Im actually doing a script for someone with the same issue.... I will tell you the truth though, you are better off to take check by phone, you will get more closes. You can print out the check info on checkpaper from checkman.com and deposit into your bank...

Paypal closes are very cumbersome and you will miss alot of opportunities to close doing it that way. However there are ways to do it.

Im not going to write my whole closing pitch here, someone else can if they want, but that (above) is my advice.

Yep... My closing conversions increased by roughly 50% after moving away from paypal, and even increased more than that when I stopped accepting credit cards. I don't use checkman, maybe I should check out the prices though, I just go to office max and print on versacheck checks. I use EZCheckprinter software, I got for free through trial pay and it works perfectly.

When closing, I like to go with a line like..."Now John, I know you probably have your credit card ready, but we only accept checks by phone, do you need a second to get that information?"

We call this an "assumptive close", its a technique that "you" just happen to do naturally.

Some people are natural born salesman.

I have tried to advise many wanna be paypal closers that they are losing more than half their closes over doing it that way... but they dont generally listen.

I dont know what the fear of checks is all about. The information they give you on the phone is no different than the information that would appear on the front of a check if they mailed it to you, and you can tell them that too!

If you get a check objection like "Im not sure if Im quite comfortable giving my checking numbers over the phone...", just casually say...with a chuckle...: "I understand lol, alot of people feel that way at first, but when you think about it..., the info you are submitting over the phone is really the exact same information that would appear on the front of your check if you mailed it....does that make sense?"

8 times out of ten they are going to say "Yeah it does actually...", particularly if they are invested enough to have went all the way to the close with you.

So you let them answer, then say "Great! Like I was saying...", and go back to your close.

"Why dont I just mail it then...?"

"Well you could, the only problem is that, right now our prices are cut in half , and if you mailed it in, by the time it got here the sale would more than likely be over...be over and I would have to charge you full price... Did you want to take advantage of the discounts while we have them available?"

Then shut up... till they respond.

"Well can you hold it for me if you know its in the mail?"

"Unfortunately not, however..., and Im not technically suppose to do this but, I COULD take the information down and post date the billing until the date you choose, as long as it isnt more than a week or so out...that way you could reserve your special price. Now, (admittance of guilt) , I wont be able to start your work unfortunately until you are billed, but at least this way you could reserve your special price... Would that help you out Nancy?"

Wait for an answer...its probably gonna be by now "Awe I guess I'll just go ahead and pay, I got your number... What do you need the account number first...?"

        Close em down.

Its actually a hold up for alot of people who subconsciously keep themselves from selling because they are feeling unsure about some aspect of their pitch...the solution is just to get on and work the kinks out,,,

Someone put up a picture of a man being fired from a cannon the other day with the caption "The boom isnt scary at all, its the anticipation of it that causes anxiety".

Og mandino says that action makes the lion of terror into the ant of equanimity.

We can feel a sense of anxiety about the prospect of taking action, just like waiting for a fight after school, but when the arms start swinging the anxiety goes away... Og says when we get into action the flutters of anxiety disappear.

Thats why "I will call on ten prospects, while the failure stands trembling at the doorway of the first , pondering what he will say..."

Anticipating getting on the phone is much harder than actually being on it.

Other than the check by phone, if you have a smartphone, I would look into Square for payments... they have a manual entry option that allows you to process up to... I think it's 2k a week before they hold the remaining for 30 days. (Look into it again) These limits only apply to manual entry (payment by phone for example) when you don't have their card to swipe it.

      Durham's right. Get a "Checks By Phone" program. I use a program called "Q-Check". (I think it's still $100 after a 30 day trial)

Get the check info off their check...type it into the program on your pc... print out and handle just as if you received check in person....deposit in your bank acct.

Note: waaay baack when the "Banking Law" was changed to accept "Facsimile" checks....I went to 4 banks in my small town and asked all 4 if they'd accept a "Check By Fax or a Check By Phone".

3 said they would NOT. One said; "Oh Sure! That was just approved!" Thus...that's where I moved my accounts and today....UMPQUA BANK is THE Largest Bank in the Pacific NW.

PLUS....if you want to collect "Monthly" checks after the first one....you do NOT have to rely on PayPal, Visa or anyone else! Just go to the Program and print out a check on your inkjet at the agreed upon date and deposit.

      No Muss, No Fuss!

It seems that many of us assume that something may be a problem before it actually becomes one. You assume that it may be more difficult to have a client pay using paypal so you spend a great deal of time searching for an answer to a question that hasn't come up.

I use paypal almost exclusively and it's never really presented itself as a problem. More often than not, especially on a one call close, you are more likely to hear "I don't like to give my cc info on the phone" and now you've got that issue to deal with.

Simply incorporate the reason you use paypal into your closing for the order statement. Something along the lines of:

"Joe, I'm going to email you a link to our payment page. You'll see we use paypal because we understand how important it is to never expose your credit card information..."

All you have to do, just like any other element of the sales process, is let the prospect know why what you are asking of them is in their best interest.

Upgrade to PayPal pro! It's only $30 a month + 3%, but it is totally worth it. You can take their card number by phone, put it in & presto! You're Rich!!!

With PayPal pro you also get a credit card swiper too that attaches to ur smartphone. If you sell in person also you can just swipe their card.

Well worth it, people are quick to second guess themselves and change their minds. Thats why i like being able to collect the money instantly.

Thanks a lot guys for the tips and feedback. David, you are totally right when it comes down to the mindset. I'm so close to the gold but so far from it that my lizard brain kicked in with the fear and anxiety.

Your words were a kick in the behind. At the moment I don't have a bank account so I'm not able to use the other payment methods you guys mentioned but once my financial situation is better I will definitely use those means to ensure my business is offering the best value and in turn generating the best conversions.

But till then forget about perfection. READY. FIRE. AIM. I don't take everyone's assistance lightly. Thank you all.

I also suggest Paypal Pro, but I must agree that accepting checks online is more popular for cold calls. It is a matter of convincing your customers right? You can definitely make them agree to what payment plan they should get.

As part of my "onboarding" process when I get a new client, I actually pull up JING and do a little screencast of my website and show the client exactly what they need to do as far as going through the check out process. It works well for me and it WOW's them just about every time. Something so simple has a big impact and makes you look "techy"

Simply they are not selling the deal, they are yea. yea, yea we can just invoice you to get off the phone.

If your sales rep has sent 12, about time you retrained to sell value, or get a new sales rep.
