I had a similar thread like this. This is some of the points I took from the posts provided by other members.

First, don't offer your services up front. Business owner's like to talk about their business. Ask them questions about their business that could lead into you offering a service for their business.

This is a sample of how to approach a business when you offer more than one service.

    Ask questions similar to this:
Can you tell me what your typical clientelle consists of?

As of right now, could you take on more customers?

So if I could get you new customers to your business, you wouldn't have a problem with that?

What are you having the most trouble with when it comes to getting new people in the door?

What do you think could work for you? What wouldn't? (discover prejudices)

If this solution was working for you, what do you think it would do for you? How many new customers? How much revenue?

What do you think is a reasonable investment in a solution to get you to this point?

Once you discover what they need, then you can present them with your services.

I wrote this post in reply on how to approach local businesses
in the hospitality and retail trade.

        Here's what I wrote...

        Best,
        Ewen

To cast the net to capture those who are already using social media and aren't getting the results they want...

and for those that haven't dipped their toes into the water but are open to the idea of it...

        Here's the headline...

        --------------------------------------------------------
Is Social Media + Internet Marketing A Time And Money Suck
        Or
A Saviour To The Hospitality And Retail Trade?
        ---------------------------------------------------------

You can have just Hospitality in one headline and that only goes to them.

        And visa versa for retailers.

This will be ideal to be the bait piece leading to a information piece,
or a group meeting with an invitation.

You'll get a greater acceptance when you approach it from a multi step approach,
because at any given time, in any market, 3% are actively looking to buy right then.

Back to the ad and the right approach.

It's already entering into the likely thoughts about the subject.

Which leads into teaser bullets which give documented results,
        using names, numbers and time.

It's not selling social media is the greatest thing since sliced bread,
because that is too self serving, hence off-putting.

Then the call to action is to find out the answers which you've
left questions un-resolved in their mind.

Now you've got them thinking about the subject in the right frame of mind,
instead of dismissing it through wrong assumptions and maybe they went about it the wrong way to get their bad results.

That's how you work with the target buyer perception and experience.

        Best,
        Ewen
