Using Birthdays as a marketing tool

Do you know any studies personally showing how birthday reminders have improved sales rates? Would love to find out actual studies on this topic.

Thanks in advance.

I dont know of any studies that i could talk about here but anytime you have a reason (such as birthday or any holiday) to contact your prospects or build a relationship with your customers or list it is good for you and your business

Thanks. You do remind me about the example in Robert Cialdini's book though.

A discount. This is the most popular type of wish I received. It’s typically a postcard with an offer for a percentage off during the month.
For retailers who focus on a high volume of clients, this may be a good strategy, although I'd invest in a card rather than a postcard and only send to my top clients.
Even if you can’t send birthday wishes to all of your clients, look into doing something special for just the top few.

Haven't seen any studies on the topic. But putting myself in the shoes of the recipient, here's what I came up with that in fact has never been done to me before...

    ---
    Happy birthday Kunle!

    "Birthday wishes here"

Here's a free gift to wish you well!

Access gift here (link here) or by doing (action here)
    ----

That would work on me. And the way I come up with my strategies, I imagine if it doesn't tick me off, it won't tick off a good number of my prospects who in many cases think like me because I try my best to put myself in their shoes before I do anything--doing this you won't always get it right, but it's one of my best strategies.

Do you mean sending birthday "gifts"? I doubt that there are much existing research on this, but the best thing to do is to experiment and test it - for example, say "Visit xxx to claim your gift!" and then track the results.

The idea is different. I think on birthday people can give us wishes and may be gifts. But it not relate with any sales improvement in Business.

I love the awful post count comments....

Anyway, a restaurant is far and away the best type of 'birthday deal'. Not
saying it does not work in other types of businesses, just not as well.

      What do you sell?

Creative Birthday marketing is finding out a business owners B-Day and sending him a little something like a good bottle of his favorite booze or a strippping telegram after hours with a special offer attached of what you will/can do for his business ... You will be remembered for sure. Different gets noticed, just be able to back it up with professional service and the utmost confidence when you talk business.
