How to turn aregular site into mobile site

The title says it all. I am looking for a simple yet effective way to turn regular (wordpress based) sites into a mobile version. There is mobify but it seems quite expensive ($50/month for domains after first one)
There was another, similar service, started with a 'D' but I just can't seem to find their site.

Any other simple ways to get a nice looking mobile web site?

I tried some of the mobile wp themes (with a mobile theme switcher plug in) but they didn't seem to change the way my test site looked on my phone or mobile simulators. Not sure why.

Would appreciate any help or advice.

    Come on warriors, surely someone can share another wordpress to mobile type service other than mobify. Would really appreciate it.

    If I am not mistaken, you can get a free wordpress plugin called verve mobile to make your sites mobile friendly. If you are hosting with host gator, I think they also offer a mobile site plugin for less than $10.00 per month.

    the "D" website that you forget about is dudamobile.com,,,it supports wordpress websites too,,,think it's a good alternative,,very easy to use.
