Whats the best way to find business owners contact?

Ok, so I've been looking for local businesses on yellowpages.com, just for contacting one by one, not for bulk marketing. Now a lot of them have no websites at all. For those businesses that do have a website, a lot of those seem to be large chain businesses (i.e. Pizza Hut).

And for those businesses that are local, it seems to be hard to find the email addresses of the business's owners. I tried to find the contact emails using whois information, but a lot of those websites have private registration (such as domain by proxy). So it's very difficult to find the emails.

Now sometimes I'm able to find email addresses and registrant names, but it's not guaranteed that the names and emails belong to the business owners.

So do anyone have any suggestion? How do you find the contact information of business owners?

If you are local why not just go to a street with a lot of businesses on it. Walk up one side and back the other. Stop in all the businesses and see how many have time to talk.

Gotta spend the $40 and invest in infofree it's amazing, without it you'll make a list that takes forevor and then say, "why didn't I use infofree from the start". Like I did

Hm... anyone else used Infofree before? I appreciate your advice, biz2mob, but I want to hear more opinion on this product before I can take a more serious thought about it. Thanks anyway.

Or try the free one day offer they have.

You can also try Jigsaw Business Contact Directory of Business Contacts and Company Information. Either pay $1 per contact info they give you, or help them grow their database (or improve it). Every item you add lets you get 1 person's contact info. The accuracy is bound to be lower than that of infofree.com.

Well, by local, I mean businesses that are small local businesses, not "local" as in the same town where I live.

As for those of you who have used whois, do you often find businesses behind private registration or having no registrant contacts? Then where do you turn to?

I searched local chamber of commerce and better business bureau listings. You can find plenty of leads, with contact name, and you're sure to get up-to-date info and a business that is professional.

Manta is a great free resource. However, it is often hit or miss on whether the business is still open or not. Out of 100 real estate agents I called from Manta listings, at least 50 were out of business. Although, that may just be for real estate agents.

Paid, scrubbed lists are the way to go if you can afford them. Salesgenie is my most used and trusted source.

Has no one mentioned calling them and asking for the email address? It would also let you know who is actually interested.

Mwind076 is right... If you're just looking for small scale lead lists then just get the yellow pages numbers then call and ask to speak with the owner or person in charge of marketing... or whatever you're selling.

Less time, Less money, and better chance of getting the right person.

I used Craigs List to find numbers of call centers and would just ask for the person in charge of taking on new customers. Worked almost every time!

      Good Luck.
