Cold calling - High paying industries?

Hey guys, I am going to gather a list off a yellowpages scraper and sort out businesses that dont have a website.

I am looking for industries that are highly paid.

The again I dont have much experience with cold calling businesses

what kind of industries do you get a good amount of sales from?

I was thinking like interior design or something?

Opnions?

    Just a thought:

If a pre-existing business doesn't have a website and generates a large profit, why would it need one?

Why not target the same large-profit businesses and sell redesigns?

My gut would tell me they are going to be more open to purchasing a higher-priced, higher-quality web site than somebody who doesn't get it conceptually.

I say this because I see it over and over again in various industries. For example, life insurance -- the best prospects for life insurance are people who own life insurance. Some of the worst prospects are those who are in their 60s and have none.

Sounds counter-intuitive, but, what kind of person doesn't have life insurance in their 60s? Somebody that just doesn't get it or doesn't care, mostly, in my experience.

The best thing you can do is put yourself out there.

That's a really good point and something I'm learning now. I'm in Australia and about 60% of businesses don't have a website. This might sound like a juicy market but think about it, if someone has a business and no website, it means they're generating income without having a website and people are really stuck in their ways.

But if someone has a website and it doesn't look as good as they like, and especially if that website is generating leads, they will look at that website and wince every time they see it.

This is really great advice and something I'm going to use. I'm sure those guys without a website get calls from web designers all the time (and then in Australia, retail stores complain that they're losing customers left right and center, meanwhile they refuse to take any action to actually compete in any way with online stores).

I recommend targeting businesses that currently have ads in yellowpages/newspapers/flyers locally; they understand the benefits of advertising, and can be easily swayed to a different method of marketing.

Also, look into targeting new businesses; many haven't yet had the chance to create/purchase a website.

How do you do that? I always wanted to have a list of new businesses in my area for a long time (or businesses going bankrupt) but kaput.

Local chamber of commerce is always helpful for things like that. Won't give you a list as such but if you go to a few meetings and talk to people eventually you will get in the loop with what is happening.

Case in point, I knew a new pizza shop was coming to town and where it was going to be situated before the landlord even knew his agent had signed a lease (literally lol)

Agree. Target those who are currently looking. That way the chances of closing the deal is bigger. Once you get the hang of it, you can try other companies.

    You can't fix stupid.

I figured out about 6 months into selling life insurance that "sales" wasn't about force or trying to convince someone against their will.

Sales is about finding the people who conceptually ALREADY "get it," then "selling" the reason why your solution is superior to the alternatives, and what great benefits will happen when the prospect takes action on your solution TODAY.

Certain businesses will hit a period of time where they become open to the prospect of changing or buying; your job is to be there when that window of opportunity presents itself.

Idea regarding investment in designing business is good also have look on dress designing.

For interior designing you need customers to get there work done by you
Forecast about the profit that will give you and actual idea about the profit that you make from one

    Best of luck

I target companies in the construction industries in the UK, reason being each customer is worth a decent amount of money to them. I do hear stories of some companies having there profits squeezed by the recession and competition undercutting.

But the reality is a lot are still very busy and doing very well. But to echo the comments above my best customers are people that are already busy but they are thinking ahead. They are doing well because they already have a website or there already doing a lot of advertising. One of my clients has just got a £1.6 million deal off one lead approx $2.5 million. This is for a renovation on a mansion and this has completely changed his business from a building company to a project management company.
